While hunting at my neighbors ranch this morning after the fog lifted and the sun came out, about 200 yards away I spotted a lone deer. I put the crosshairs of my burris signature 4-16 on the deer and found it to be a 7 point point. I carefully positioned my FN Special Police Rifle and squeezed one off. BANG!! out of the 26'' chrome lined barrel came a Hornady 110 gr TAP bullet at 3100 fps and then I heard a "THUD", The 7 point "humped up" and ran about 30yds, stopped, and fell over. That was all she wrote for this Texas Whitetail. The 110 gr. Hornady entered just behind the front shoulder and totaly disinegrated the lungs never making an exit wound. A very successful opening day in Central Texas.

I hope that was not a .30 110 grn projectile!  I can understand a .243, .257, or .264 getting that light and having the required construction to deliver consistant humane kills on white tails, but in .308 that's a varmit round.

Congratulations, Shooter!
What caliber did you use to get your deer?

My sons both got their 1st deer Oct 14th(Opening weekend)in eastern Wa.!
My 11yo got his at 1:30 pm, with a perfect 75yd shot to the spine, right behind the shoulder.
My 9yo shot his at 6:00pm,same spine shot as his brother at 50yds.
Both boys used the same Remington ADL Synthetic Youth M700,
in .243 ,Federal Premium Ammo, with Moly coated Nosler 100grn partition bullet.
I shot a nice 4x4 buck the next day with the same rifle at 411 honest yds! Granted it took me 2 shots, but I hit it twice at 411yds!
Best shot I have ever made on anything. We measured the range afterwards with a Bushnell laser. The .243 was about out of Oomph at that range, and I had guestimated the range at 275 or so, otherwise I may not have attempted the shot so long.
I am very proud of my sons, thier range work and Hunter saftey training sure paid off for them.
