SANTA FE —  Legislation introduced in the state Senate proposes charging a $5 fee for each customer visiting a strip club in New Mexico.

The money would be used to help prosecute sex crimes in the state.

The measure is sponsored by Sen. John Grubesic, D-Santa Fe.

The fee would begin next Jan. 1 if approved by the Legislature and signed by Governor Richardson.

Just a curiousity, is there an actual link between sex crimes and strip clubs that would constitute this fee?

Why not charge a fee to people who buy computers to help combat child pornography?

You're expecting a politician to make a (more or less) logical association when passing or increasing a tax on the people?  Please tell me you're not that naive.

I was thinking this was in AL. That tax wouldn't even pay for the paper the proposal was written on.

The government, both state and federal are the biggest welfare queens we have. At least at the local level it's easer to control because the chanch of knowing them personally, and them having to live with thier serfs is greater. At least there they are living under the rules they make.. fullclip

They do that here in TX.

Want to guess how much of the money actually go to what it was intended for?  Want to guess how much of the money goes into the "we are spending like a drunken sailor fund"?

Sounds OK.  Why stop there?

How bout $5 fee for entry to the ballet, and opera, and sports events and rock concerts?

Shit raise lotta money that way.

Or are they implying that people at strip clubs are the perpetrators of sex crimes
