North Dallas is beautiful now that they finished that clusterf$%# of a public works program I75.  I work uptown, live in Arlington.  I used to live at Royal Ln and 75, a real nice neighborhood to the west of 75.  Avoid Oak Cliff and the south and southeast side.

What towns are you looking at? Northern suburbs? Near D/FW airport? If you have any specifics, I can give my opinions on crime/expense.

I'll throw my hat in with hound and offer my help. If you'd like me to mail you the apartments for rent section of the Dallas Morning Snooze, just shoot me an e-mail and it's yours.

I too am considering moving to the Dallas area.  I'm a web developer by profession, but can do most anything computer software related.  What I'd like is a few acres with a 3BR, 2BA home on it.  How far from Dallas would I have to go before finding something like that for under $150,000?

I live in Plano(20mi north of Dallas) Rent is between $600-900 for a 1bedroom. Really nice community, kinda yuppie-ish. Don't know if you're into that. Your basic 2.5 kids family type neighborhood. Low crime. Middle to upper middle class families. More cops than you can shake a stick at. Very low crime so all they do is follow people around waiting for them to make a mistake. Tons of places to go entertainment wise, except if you like to go clubbing. YOu would need to go to Carrolton or into Dallas for that.

Go to www.rent.net and check out the rent around here.

I like the area around the Galleria, 635 & Toll Rd.  You can see the Dallas Morning News online at www.dallasnews.com.  I don't know if you have to sign-up to get full access though.

Yeah Ft. Worth. I used to go up there at least once a month for F-16 design meetings. Back when it was General Dynamics.

If you're gonna go, you better get going cause there will be a big influx of people after last Friday's announcement. One of my co-workers/friends went up there about two months ago and seems to like it fine. Actually his whole family is liking it.

Good luck on your decision and finding something.

When J C Penney relocated their corporate offices from New York to Plano, Texas, the folks that transferred here could not get over how much house you could get for the buck in this part of the world.

It won't be difficult at all to find someplace to live within anyone's price line.

Real estate is pretty cheap here and the farther North or East/Westyou go, the cheaper it gets. Don't go South, however, 'cause while the real estate is cheap, so is life (if you get my drift, and I know you do).

I used to live in Oak Cliff, off of Jefferson Avenue back in the early 80s. Hell, that part of town was run down even then
