The day after the cabinet decision, three national police groups wrote to Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day, urging him to implement import marking as a way of helping investigators track down guns used at crime scenes.

again, HOW would this help? lets see, you have a body, with a couple bullet holes in it. having markings from the importer on the gun that fired the bullets but is nowhere to be found since the murderer took it with him does what, exactly?

man, this is like the 10th example in the last two days i've had where a politician says "...it helps" but provides no real reason HOW, and people just accept it. if pushed further, the "answer" is usually a non-sequitor from the original statement that gives no additional support, but it still accepted.
