Just curious on the brands most installed, and how many old one's are still out there.

I'm still running a early 80s Addison Weather King 70% I upgraded to 80% with a Robert Shaw 712-017 ICU kit. Very reliable, heats the house quickly,[probably too quickly to be efficient, to many BTUs] quiet and very standard parts found almost anywhere. I've over ran the blower wheel a bit for a bit more air flow thru a HEPA type filter and set the fan switch temp wise using the last run temp at 80F. Bills run $60-$100 a month for heat and hot water in winter. [gas usage+transportation pipeline fees+meter fee, all included]

An Amana 95%+. It's less than a year old. I'm going to throw a birthday party for it when it gets 1 year old. Should I give it a filter as a present?

I'm assuming it's the original that came with the house that was built in 1968 so I'm going to guess there are better out there.

That being said it works but I'm sure it's not all that efficient, I should have it checked to make sure all is good but have yet to have a problem with it in 6 years.

Lennox G61 94.1% Gas Furnace, have had it for 3 or 4 years now and love it.

We've come a long way in the last 40 years...

American Standard...about 80% efficient and 14 years old.  Two igniter bar failures in that time period and two blower motors.  May be looking at replacements next spring to the A/C (10 EER) and furnace.  With natural gas at $10-11/Mcf, a really efficient heat pump may be the way to go, but I am not sure.  Hopefully the HVAC guy will be able to do economic comparisons for us.
