Try to get the model with the 3.8L engine. Great engine, very good gas milage. I am also looking at Impalas, along with Lesabres and Crown Vics.

For 21 Large, I'd be looking elsewhere. Specifically, the new Altima V6 has a 240 HP engine that will do 0-60 in well under 6 seconds, has a top speed of at least 145 MPH, seats 5 adults comfortably, and can be had for roughly the same amount of money. It's also made in America by a work force that is smart enough to reject a recent vote to unionize!

If you do buy it, tell the dealer to remove the ".9% financing" part.
There are plenty of dealers right now offering 0% financing. He needs your business more than you need him to finance it. Best wish in your decision! |

Not to mention when a Honda has 150K on it it runs as good, looks as good and feels as solid as the day it was bought. (Slam the door on a 10 year old Honda and a Ten year old GM..."Thunk" vs. "Rattle"). If you doubt me, just look at resale value. I rest my case. The three "american" cars I've had the misfortune to own (TWO GM (G Generally M alfunctioning) and one Ford (Fixed Or Repaired Daily) never , EVER woulda made it that far, much less looked good doing it. My advice...Invest wisely. Buy a Honda. |

Buy american, especially at times like these. My point exactly — The Nissan is made in Tennesse, with American labor and more American parts (and build quality) than most Chevies or Fords. As for the comment about no Japanese classics — Ever heard of the 240/260/280/300Z, RX-7, NX, 3000GT, Miata or Land Cruiser? |

Last I looked, you can buy a fully loaded Taurus/Sable for about 19K. This is a great value in this class of car. It has been consistently rated as the industry leader for collision safety. (check on this - don't take my word for it) They are also the most inexpensive of the class to ensure. According to my USAA agent, the Sable is slightly cheaper than the Taurus because it is stolen less often. Honda builds a fine quality product no doubt. I think that about everything they build kicks ass. It's just that over the long term, the higher initial cost and higher insurance premiums will most likely kill any perceived longevity advantage. Call you agent and have them send you a list of the safest cars and best buys. I bet you will be suprised to see few "Japanese" cars on the list Good Luck |

There is damn near a cottage industry built around replacement Honda CV joints and brake parts. They have some issues too. Also, if you have ever worked in a parts environment you surely know that Honda loves to change engine designs every stinking six months. They are a nightmare when it comes to replacement parts. Do not pretend they never break. Look in your phone book - I bet you find at least half a dozen Honda specialty repair shops in your major metropolitan area. They make good cars, but domestics are not the POS that you allege. |

Skibane, you're exactly right about the Landcruiser! Hell, I had forgotten I've owned a '69 FJ40, and I must admit a CJ/TJ/YJ can't even touch it! All the others you mentioned are good cars, to be sure, but they just don't have the personality, if you know what I mean, and none of them will bring what an old '60s muscle car will. Ah, well, Viper's right...to each his own. Buy what ya like, and once it's paid off, keep the SOB! (Can ya tell I'm REAL biased towards American cars?)

Personally, if you want a great riding car look at a used BMW 740. Large interior, great seats, totally classy inside. Replacement parts can be expensive, but you can get a mid-90's model for perhaps $22k-25k. Best riding cars made. They make GM's best look like slop.
