Your right, I don't. If I spend that kind of money for something with two wheels it will have an internal combustion engine on it.

But on the other hand I've never riden a bicycle that cost more than ~$150 either. And I'll bet yours is a sweet ride! Congrats!

That is a lot of $$$ that could have gone for guns and accessories. But hey whatever floats your boat.  Glad you like it!

Some people know how to ride, and some people know WHAT to ride!

My brother's best man bought a frame -- JUST A FRAME, no moving parts-- for $1200, used, about 20 years ago.

I know where you are coming from, I paid $5000.00 for a bike.

That was years ago though. Campy was king and Dura Ace was just begining to be the shit.

Um... ok.  Sorry, but unless the frame is made from some kind of space-age material, there is nothing about a bicycle frame that makes it worth $1200.

The cycling magazines tell cyclists what they should ride, and they fork over massive amounts of money to keep up with their buddies.

It's their money to do with what they want, but don't try to pretend that there's something special about that bike that makes it worth $4200, other than the name and the symbolism.

I get it!

I got a new 2006 Giant Reign 2 in March of '06 @$2600 my wife and non-riding friends thought I had lost my mind. Then in October, before our trip to Tsali, I got my wife a new ride. She now understands what it's like to get a new bike. I'll post pics later.

Factor in the cost of titanium, carbon, a mix of the above, or in my case aluminum/ carbon and frames will easily reach the $2k plus mark.  Component durability, weight, and having everything tuned and working together costs money.  Just like a car, it will get you from point a to point b, but some do it with more speed and finesse, and for much more money.

I'll be the turd in the punch bowl and ask the OP if he can do 75 road miles and average 15mph on that bike. Can you? CAN YOU???

Buying a $4200 bike is no great feat. Anyone with the bucks can do it but it takes a bad ass to reach the potential that the bike offers.

I know that I can't do it now but there was a time 10 years ago that I could do that kind of mileage on a mountain bike and get up the next day ready to go again.

So please post about how much fun and what kinda trips you take on that bad boy. Nobody, including MTB riders, cares about how much it costs.

An experienced rider can tell, kinda like a crappy brand "x" AR versus a Noveske....

I remember riding a buddies $1k Cannondale ~15yrs ago. Compared to my $400 bike it was night & day..

Nice bike.  What's the weight?  I'm not heavy in to bikes, but that looks like a real nice setup.  I'm more of a Speciailized, Trek or Cannondale (cheap) kind of guy.

Same question I wanted awnsered, how much does it weigh?

I did a 200 mile trip over 5 days across the C&O Canal and into Gettysburg. The bearings went out on the crank once and had to be repacked. I can respect wanting a good bike if you spend enough time on it.

That is a very sweet ride!

Though I don't think I could justify spending that much $$ on a bike unless I was competing professionally or something...

Nonetheless, don't listen to the haters.

Get out and enjoy that beast!

Nice bike.  I'll admit I know nothing about mountain bikes, but I wonder how many people would look at my guns and say "holy shit you paid xxx for that?  You got assraped".  People who have no use for a product cannot justify a high price tag for something like a bike.  I mean why should Sig P210s cost 5K?  They're the same as a Hi-point right? I really like the way the bike looks, and if you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

And I thought I was spending alot when i shelled out $400 for a Trek mtn bike about 15 years ago

I would be investing in a titanium logging chain to lock it up with
