A villager cleans rats north of Bangkok, Thailand, Nov. 1 before selling them to roadside food stands. Struggling to make ends meet in their pest-infested villages, some Thai farmers are getting a cash boost from "rat money."

He said would, not wouldn't.

As for me - sewer rat might taste like pumpkin pie but I'll never know because I wouldn't eat the nasty mother fucker.

Rat; the other white meat.

Can't be much worse than a corn dog.

I dunno, considering how disease-resistant rats themselves are, the meat might be safer than, say, pork.

I'd have to be pretty hungry before I'd eat one, though, and I'd want to make sure it was cooked thoroughly.

-5 for no gun

I live in Thailand 6 months a year.  I don't believe this story.

Yeah, they eat weird stuff.  Insects like you wouldn't believe.  Not because they have to, they WANT to.

But rat?  Nope.  They don't eat rat, horse, dog, monkey.  Not unless you maybe get into the jungle areas bordering on Laos and Burma (Myanmar).  Most thais would be as disgusted by the rat photo as we are.

I like pan fried tree rat and gravy so I would try it.

I don't know if I would eat one that has been in garbage and may carry a disease a human could catch. But if it were out in the jungle away from town and the rat had been eating things other than rubbage why not.

So much of Thailand is going muslim these days that I hesitate to think they'd eat rat (since muslims basically stick to a levitican diet), though who knows what they'd sell to the tourists....

How much worse would those be than squirrels?  I know a lot of folks who have eaten lots of squirrels, I have eaten a few myself.

Weirdest thing i've eaten so far has been raccoon.  It wasn't very good; reminded me of tough and greasy pork chops.  I consider rodents to be "survival food".  If a guy is hungry enough, he'll eat anything, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Err yeah.

Actually, when you are sitting in an outdoor bar listening to music or watching the muay thai boxing and one of those carts is pushed past it SMELLS great.  Damn.  I'm convinced the human body is programmed to like anything fried

I don't know where he heard that.  There is a section of south thailand that borders Malaysia that has some muslims but there is no change happening elsewhere so far as I can tell.  It is a VERY buddhist nation.
