I was just on my recieving dock at work looking for some safety suplies. The BBT had pulled in and was unloading. In thae back of his truck was a Sony DVD player NIB. It was just on the floor right under the step at the axles. I was just about to make a smartass comment on how he could accdently lose that box when he steped on it! Full force like this was a normal way to treat a box.

I make an audible OHHHHH!!! He stepped on it!

His reply was a smirk and "it was broken anyway"

I saw it myself. I couldn't believe it, and wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it. Just stepped on it.

Do they really have monkeys woking at the airport?

The scary thing is that you have to get promoted from the sorting area to be a driver/

Yeah, things I didn't want to hear.  UPS lost my business a long time ago.

First job I had out of highschool was unloading trailers for UPS.  Man, the more the supervisor shouted about "production", the more stuff we destroyed...  Our "favorite" were fluorescent
lightbulbs.  We actually checked those boxes to see if they were broken, then corrected the condition if they weren't.

Payback was a bitch.

I loaded trucks part time for UPS for about 3 of the worst months of my life while in college.
I started late in the afternoon after the trailers had sat out in the sun all day and man it was like Hell itself in those trailers.
The boxes would come down the belts relentlessly, the supervisors would be yelling at us to stack the load properly while checking the zip on every box to make sure it wasn't a misload;what a freakin nightmare!
We used to play "fragile" football; all the boxes marked fragile or glass etc. would get punted or thrown as hard as possible.
And there was some major thievery going on.Guys would break into boxes they thought looked "interesting". After working there a while these guys knew what was in a certain shape box from experience. At the end of the shift the floor was littered with ripped open boxes and porn mags, what a laugh. They told us they had security cameras hidden around the plant but I never saw anybody caught stealing.
Needless to say I don't use UPS for my shipping needs. [;)]

I once had a UPS driver roll a TV I had shipped down several flights of stairs.  He blamed it on us in the store because it was 'packed wrong', um no TV's are heavy on one side.

Back when I worked for TriStar Computers, I had the funniest day from the UPS gal.

I built the most expensive computer at the time, packed it, and shipped it (hey there were only 7 employees at the time, I did assembly, packing, shipping).

Our shipping boxes were really good. Box was generally twice the size of the system, and we used injected foam forms for padding. Basicly the box was 2'x2'x4' roughly.

5 days after shipping, I got a call from the customer saying that he couldn't accept the system because it was damaged in shipping and that UPS was sending it back. I said, no problem, we have shipping insurance for that, and I would pull the order and start building the system, but I couldn't ship it until the damaged "goods" showed up. He agreed that was cool.

2 days later the box showed up.

Our normal UPS person (cute girl actually), showed up laughing and pulled out the "damaged" box. The damn thing was now 6 inches thick!!! It looked like it was put in a press. Perfectly squashed.

About 10 minutes later, her supervisior showed up, looked at the box and said that it wasn't UPS's fault. WE had damaged the box. That is when the entire company, and the UPS girl starting laughing. The supervisor then insisted that we open the box and see if the computer in side was ok. I just laughed even more.

Basicly I ended up with 5 UPS people down at the warehouse trying to get out of paying for the computer, saying that our packaging was bad. Actually ended up taking a packed system off the loading dock and throwing it around the place to prove to them that our packaging was good.

F UPS!!!

They aren't the only ones. One day I heard a truck pull up in front of the house, so I peeked out the window and it was the Airborne guy. I watched him open the back of the van, unload the new APC Smart-UPS 1400 I had just ordered for $629, and then drop the box right in the middle of the street. I hear "boom!", as the foam padding inserts just exploded from the weight of that heavy battery. Anyway, the box splits open, the UPS goes rolling down the steet into the gutter filled with water. So, I watch the guy pick it up, put in back in the truck, and about 2 minutes later he comes out again with the box taped up. So, he comes to the door and I answer he says, "Sign here please." So, I ask why the box looks munched and why there is fresh tape wrapped all over the place and he says it came that way. So, I say no, I don't think it came that way and he says "Are you refusing delivery? If you are you may have to pay to have another one shipped to you because these things weigh like 80 lbs." So, I say, "I was watching you the entire time, I saw you drop it and I saw it roll into the water in the gutter and if you give me any crap I'm calling your boss." The next day a new UPS arrives at my door, shipped overnight.

And I would add that I have been in the logistics business for 12 years (developing logistics software along the lines of UPS Office, FedEx PowerShip, Airborne QuickLink, DHL EasyShip, etc.) and I have watched UPS's service deteriorate over the past 4 years. They are worse now than they have ever been. They are a good company and it troubles me to see it.

Ha, I can relate to this!

I took a full tower computer case to Mail Box Etc (stinking lousy rip off assholes MBE) all packed and labeled with a full sheet 8.5x11 inch laser printed label laminated to the top and side of the box.

I sent it UPS to Boulder Colorado.

It went all over the country, back and forth a few times and landed on MY DOORSTEP!  I looked at the tracking site and it was nearly a page and a half long.  I used to copy paste it into emails on message boards I participate in, but they cycle out old track numbers after a while.

Bastards.

Problem is, what choice do you have?

Airborne wont even accept guns anymore.

FedEx Ground won't even return my calls inquiring about an account.

FedEx is great, but a pain to ship where I live the FedEx place is a half hour drive.

USPS, lost an entire FAL, a whole rifle! and then took 125 days to pay the claim!

I recently had an L1A1 shipped to washington state. It had wood furniture on it, and it was IN A CASE. When it got to it's destination the stock had cracks in it.

Customer was pissed, I was pissed.

I ask the girl (evil bitch) at the UPS hub who I call about making a 60 dollar claim for this buttstock. She tells me if I submit a claim that she'll make me double box with 4 inches of foam around it, ever rifle I ship from there from now on.

I was frothing at the mouth mad all damn day.
