They aren't the only ones. One day I heard a truck pull up in front of the house, so I peeked out the window and it was the Airborne guy. I watched him open the back of the van, unload the new APC Smart-UPS 1400 I had just ordered for $629, and then drop the box right in the middle of the street. I hear "boom!", as the foam padding inserts just exploded from the weight of that heavy battery. Anyway, the box splits open, the UPS goes rolling down the steet into the gutter filled with water. So, I watch the guy pick it up, put in back in the truck, and about 2 minutes later he comes out again with the box taped up. So, he comes to the door and I answer he says, "Sign here please." So, I ask why the box looks munched and why there is fresh tape wrapped all over the place and he says it came that way. So, I say no, I don't think it came that way and he says "Are you refusing delivery? If you are you may have to pay to have another one shipped to you because these things weigh like 80 lbs." So, I say, "I was watching you the entire time, I saw you drop it and I saw it roll into the water in the gutter and if you give me any crap I'm calling your boss." The next day a new UPS arrives at my door, shipped overnight.
And I would add that I have been in the logistics business for 12 years (developing logistics software along the lines of UPS Office, FedEx PowerShip, Airborne QuickLink, DHL EasyShip, etc.) and I have watched UPS's service deteriorate over the past 4 years. They are worse now than they have ever been. They are a good company and it troubles me to see it.
