Kitwulfen and his mom recently moved into new digs. It needs a little TLC and hasn't been lived for a few months. One of the surprises was no hot water in several rooms. We found a newish looking oil water heater in a crawl space. It had a light switch on it turned off. And the heater has two oil lines running into what looks like the burner/blower (don't understand why). Anyway, we flipped the switch on and the thing came to life and roared at us to which we promptly leaped out of the crawl space. After we retrieved our balls we peeked back in to see a little white smoke rising from the blower smelling like burnt oil.

What to do?
Let it run a minute to see if it stops smoking?
A professional needs to look at it?
Leave it off and take cold showers?
Tongue baths for all?

Thanks

PS - No, really. I'm looking for a serious answer.
