I think every citizen of a foreign country should have an equal shot at US citizenship, based solely on individual merit.  When those lucky enough to have been born closer to the US can circumvent that system it makes the whole process meaningless.  Not that the current legal immigration system isn't a trainwreck anyway.

Most other countries have a strong lack of interest in law enforcement and scumbags and perverts travel.  Always have, always will.  It's nice to have a border between them and me.

Open borders didn't work out too well for the Sioux nation. I plan on learning from the mistakes of the past if at all possible.

how would we know if they were convicted murderers or noted gang-members or pederists? what about people who are crimminaly insane or infected with serious infectious diaseses?

America will always be all about immigration, but immigration means jumping through a couple hoops, maybe speaking a little bit of the language and being deemed someone who could conciable be a productive member of our society.
