Listening to it now.  Could be one of the best rock albums ever.  Even if Axl Rose is nutball.

Yep. I was a freshman in college when it was released and it took Rock and Roll by storm.

It was huge.

I like almost every GNR song.  Except for the spaghetti incident stuff.

I was stationed El Toro, CA in the mid 80's and every was talking about this new band.  They were gonna be huge.  It was G&R, and I missed my chance to see them in a bar, before Appetite came out.  Been kicking myself every since.

I loved G&R until Asshole Rose lost his mind.  Still love appetite and G&R Lies though.  One my top 10 favorites.

What?!

No mention of Crue or AC/DC?!

For shame.

The article in a recent rolling stone about the making of that album was great.  So many crazy stories, and a good insight into the process of putting together appetite for destruction.  I actually think that they could make a kickass movie based on some of those events.

I met Slash the winter after the album came out. He's a pretty cool, laid-back guy -- totally low-key. And very talented.

Guns 'n Roses was GREAT. Yeah, Axl is a nut, and they fizzled out after about 5 years, but they were still a great band.

If we never once heard of GNR and they just released Appetite for Destruction - it'd still be one of the best albums of all time.

Agreed.  I love it and every single track kicks ass.

That said...Axl Rose is a pussy.

Crue, ACDC, Guns and Roses, so many bands in the 80s did what bands/singers of today could NEVER do!

Rock the fuck out of a stadium!  God I miss 80s rock!!!!!!!

I was a sophmore in college when AFD came out. My band had this storage space that we used for rehearsals. The drummer had bought the album (actual vinyl record) and somehow it ended-up on the floor of this place. Laid there in the sleeve for months. Never got taken out and played. Had rehearsals and parties in there. So one day, we decided to pick it up off the floor. It was covered in muddy foot prints and other crap. I remember putting it on the turn table and thinking "wow, this is fresh". I'm not the biggest G&R fan, but it was different. In a time when slick, hair metal was everywhere, it was nice and gritty and raw. Remember liking Sweet Child O Mine a lot. And then the next year the album took off and I must've seen/heard that song on the radio and MTV a million times. Got sick of it. But like it again now. Definitely good stuff...

That album was the perfect  blend of hard hitting heavy metal with some pop metal flourishes. Not as hard as metallica or megadeath, but not as pop as Poison and most of the other hair-metal bands.

Appetite is one the top rock albums ever..up there with Back in Black, Are you Experienced, etc.

Not a weak song on the whole album-strong from start to finish.

Too bad everything after that was not as good.
