The hillary or rudy thread got me thinking.

Could I keep the barrels, stocks, magazines, etc.?  By their definitions, the receiver is the gun, right?

Regardless, I've decided I'll cut them all in half - I wouldn't want them being used against me.

Anyone know what was done in Australia or England?

eta: I'm serious, please limit the "cold dead hands, I'm a tough guy" responses.

What is the point of keeping the upper etc?

They can't be used.  It is unlikely they would have much value at that point either.

Upper would be harder to make on your own...

I really need a new boat but man I want a new semi auto .50, guess I'll buy a new bailing bucket instead...

You could fashion a grip on the carry handle, hold it upside down, and buy a hammer and solder the head of a nail on it.  Yup, that would work.

Some parts may be resold to airsoft people, police looking to buy personal spares, etc.

Might also keep it in case the "ban" was eventually revoked.

Mostly I'd like to keep the other parts so that they don't have a working/useful gun, and they couldn't resell the items.

Guns?  What guns?  Tragic boating accident....

If they press the issue, well then I'll hand over the bullets first and then bug the fuck out to lead a life of crime.

I'll buy a black van and paint a red stripe down the middle....

Can somebody explain to me how a country that has - within the last 10 years - seen it's states once again allowing citizens to walk around in public armed, pass legislation granting immunity to gun manufacturers when their product was used illegally, and seen it's states pass Castle Doctrine legislation one by one, would all of a sudden begin confiscating all guns?

Can somebody explain this to me? Many states (except the usual suspects) have seen their gun laws relaxed in the last 10 years. How is this a precursor to confiscation? Shit, the Supreme Court is likely to declare the 2nd an individual right. Gun laws are being lightened up all over the country, and you dudes are convinced you'll be handing them in.

Back in 1968, I'd almost see your point. But in 2007? Pffft.

They aren't just going to want your guns, they're going to want ANYTHING that can possibly be used as a weapon.  They're going to come for your:

  • Scopes

  • Slings

  • Ammo

  • Mags

  • Blackpowder

  • Handloading equipment

  • Antiques (C&R's too)

  • Airguns

  • Airsoft equipment

  • Paintball equipment

  • Tactical gear

  • Knives

  • Pipe

  • Nails

These fuckers want it all.  The only alternative to surrenderring your property is MOLON LABE.

Republicans have been in the white house for the past 8 years.  That may have something to do with the above.  That may not (probably won't be ) be true after the next election.

THe White House doesn't have anything to do with what he was saying. THe gains made in gun rights in recent years have occurred in state legislatures.

Gun owners have had a hellavu ride in my state in recent years: CCW, gun confiscation ban, castle doctrine, repeal of our old Jim Crow handgun permit law. It's been good.

I think the OP is too concerned with what "they" will "allow" him to own.

He should be more concerned with if "they" outlaw his guns, what is he going to do about it.

The real question is, why do they want to take our firearms so badly?  It is almost a religion to the left, that we "little people" need to be disarmed.  It is certainly not about crime.

Real question #2, what will they do to us after they disarm us?

Answer:  Anything they want.

If there is one thing that liberals know well, it's that federal law > state law.  One federal law can overpower 50 state laws.  We've seen it before in other areas; as well as, gun rights.

Guns are icky. Sure, I post on a really big gun board on the internet, but it's just for entertainment to fulfill my fantasies of serving my government. All I've got is a single shot .410 shotgun from about 1951 that I use for hunting.
