Flat handed. One set for max reps.

It would depend on how many TI's (and/or DI's) screaming at you...
Anything over 20 is waste of time and valuable life enrgy.(better used for pie and zombies)

Thirty for the average non-excersizing male I'd say. My last PT test I did pretty pathetic compared to pre-deployment.
I used to work in Seattle with two girls, I asked them how many they could do in two minutes, and they both did TWO pushups. I asked them, "So if you're working alone, and a rapist comes in and tries to rape you, you wouldn't even be able to push him off?" They started going to the gym after that, for like a week though. But my point was made. |
I try to do 60 a night in 3 sets of 20. I could likely reel them off at once if I had to though.
I can can do 80-90 reps in proper form except for maybe the last 5 or so by then, I'm beat! Oh yeah, I'm 38 and score in the 270 range on my apft. Now if i could only improve my run time!

To be considered "fit", I think the Army Physical Fitness Test is a fair measure (except I think it should include pull-ups like the USMC test).

45. Because that's what I can do consecutively before I have to rest.
I have bad shoulders. I can do about 5 before the pain is too much. I can do pullups though.

so far I'm at 50. but ever since the attempted robbery at my store i've been doing pushups with fellow workers.
I did 250 pushups in the 7th grade. At 250 I stopped, I could of done more.
I didn't know I could do that many but it was a PE test in JR High. When I started doing pushups I could only do 10. I did them once and sometimes twice everyday adding another pushup or more as I could. I would not expect you or anyother guy to do this. I should add that, no way in hell I coud do 250 pushups today. |
I'm 60 and I can do 50 push ups, in fact I do it every day. |
if you cant even do 50 push ups you need to turn in your man card now!
Yup...50 in the morning...50 before I hit the sack. If just bashing em out from max amount...100 isnt unrealistic |
I can do 75-100 without dieing...
I'm fat though..make it sit ups and its a different story! |
PE/PT Tests go off the two minute time limit as standard No 7th grader does 250 consecutive and "could've done more" in two minutes. At that pace, you'd pretty much "own" every Army Ranger, Recon Marine, and SF guy out there. |
Clearly this wasn't a timed test |
When he said it was in a PE test, that would make one assume a 2 minute time limit. I'll stick by my "BS" claim, even if you remove the time limit. I have buddies who scored in the highest percentiles on the Army PT test and they can't do 250 without stopping. Here's the internet equation for push ups "number of push ups I think I can do" times two, plus 87 = How many push ups I've done. |

I used to be able to do all sorts of "Feats of strengths"
When you get older... If you have some intelligence, you learn to accomplish the things you needed to get done with brains and not brawn. GM PS: I can still do about 20 |
I don't know about guys, but a gentleman should have a boy [defined as you wish] to do that sort of thing for him.
yeah me too, although for all the PT tests I took at Bolc 3 at ft benning we would do pullups |
Well I did them. I don't care what you think. ETA I didn't say anything about a time limit. They didn't stop me because I ran out of time. 2nd ETA 4 years later( 17yrs old) I became a Marine. I didn't "Own" anyone. |

Remember the gym class chart. 65 in one minute was a C for the guys. 8 in a minute was an A for the girls.
MEN - standard APFT push-ups (2min)
Age:... Min/Max 17-21... 42/71 22-26... 40/75 27-31... 39/77 32-36... 36/75 37-41... 34/73 42-46... 30/66 47/51... 25/59 52-56... 20/56 57-61... 18/53 62+ .... 16/50 |

The maximum I've ever seen for any LEO testing was 45 in one minute.
The minimum I've seen for LEO testing was 25 in one minute. and people were FAILING!!! |
I do about double. They're so easy to do (anywhere, any time) I almost feel guilty when I don't hit 200 a day on slow days. |
I'd say 20-30 is correct |
And not these pussy wimp push ups, all the way down and back up.
Touch your spotters knuckles to your sternum, back straight, no moving around to stretch. |
I didn't assume it either. Maybe the problem is YOUR ASSumptions... |
