Im looking to get a bolt action or a semi auto long rifle. I want to hit targets out to 500 meters. I am looking at a Rem 700, since that is what I was brought up to bring as an excellent long range rifle. WHat say the hive? Im looking to spend around $1500.

Savage 10 .308 with the Mcmillan or HS Stock, or get the cheapest model and put a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock on it... I love mine.

Super Sniper 10X or Falcon Optics 10x. The super sniper rocks, but I would like to try the Falcon optics Brand next.

Badger Ord or Ken Farrell Rings and Base.

It would be cheaper than the price you listed!

Or you might consider the Remington 700 SPS Tactical with the above accessories. You can get one around $500 and it's definitely good for the range your looking at. I want one for my next project.

I have a 700 LSS in 300 Ultra, with Leupold glass.

She will shoot 6" @ 700 yds. all day.

Rifle, brake, glass, trigger, for under $1500.

Rem 700 VLS FTW, get good glass and a trigger job.

Some of the CZ's look sweet too but I haven't fired any of them.

Not trying to be a turd, but that costs more than what he looking to spend, and thats not including optics and Rings/mount as well.

Not a turd, got me. Didn't see that he wanted to fit optics into the budget too.

Thanks guys, would you go with .308 or .30-06?

.308 my VS would should under .5moa all day long with Fed GMM 168gr, get a trigger job and good rings and glass. Do your research over at snipersparadise.org good group of guys and the IOR scopes for my eye were WAY clearer than Leupold.

I don't own one, but the rifle I would buy if I had the money would be this:

The FN PBR. Except I'd want one with a green stock and fluted 18" or 20" barrel. Reasonably priced, too.

I've got a nice 300 Win Mag set-up if you're interested in that caliber.

It's the one in back.

Buy a Savage and then put the best optics/mount you can afford on it

sexy custom  remington with shitty scope Vs Stock savage with a nice scope

Savage everytime

It always amased and dismayed me working at the gun shop over the years how many people would spend $900 on a rifle and $100 on a scope for it

you are much better off with a $300 rifle and a $700 scope

the best rifle in the world will not hit shit with junk optics

Buy a Tikka T3 Varmit in 308 Winchester. Put a 6-24 Burris Signature scope on it. You won't have any problem seeing or hitting what you want to out to 500 meters all day with that setup.
