Doc, what’s up with snooping?
Pediatrician paranoia runs deep By Michael Graham | Thursday, October 4, 2007 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Op-Ed They’re watching you right now. They counted every beer you drank during last night’s Red Sox game. They see you sneaking out to the garage for a smoke. They know if you’ve got a gun, and where you keep it. They’re your kids, and they’re the National Security Agency of the Nanny State. I found this out after my 13-year-old daughter’s annual checkup. Her pediatrician grilled her about alcohol and drug abuse. Not my daughter’s boozing. Mine. “The doctor wanted to know how much you and mom drink, and if I think it’s too much,” my daughter told us afterward, rolling her eyes in that exasperated 13-year-old way. “She asked if you two did drugs, or if there are drugs in the house.” “What!” I yelped. “Who told her about my stasher, I mean, ‘It’s an outrage!’ ” I turned to my wife. “You took her to the doctor. Why didn’t you say something?” She couldn’t, she told me, because she knew nothing about it. All these questions were asked in private, without my wife’s knowledge or consent. “The doctor wanted to know how we get along,” my daughter continued. Then she paused. “And if, well, Daddy, if you made me feel uncomfortable.” Great. I send my daughter to the pediatrician to find out if she’s fit to play lacrosse, and the doctor spends her time trying to find out if her mom and I are drunk, drug-addicted sex criminals. We’re not alone, either. Thanks to guidelines issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics and supported by the commonwealth, doctors across Massachusetts are interrogating our kids about mom and dad’s “bad” behavior. We used to be proud parents. Now, thanks to the AAP, we’re “persons of interest.” The paranoia over parents is so strong that the AAP encourages doctors to ignore “legal barriers and deference to parental involvement” and shake the children down for all the inside information they can get. And that information doesn’t stay with the doctor, either. Debbie is a mom from Uxbridge who was in the examination room when the pediatrician asked her 5-year-old, “Does Daddy own a gun?” When the little girl said yes, the doctor began grilling her and her mom about the number and type of guns, how they are stored, etc. If the incident had ended there, it would have merely been annoying. But when a friend in law enforcement let Debbie know that her doctor had filed a report with the police about her family’s (entirely legal) gun ownership, she got mad. She also got a new doctor. In fact, the problem of anti-gun advocacy in the examining room has become so widespread that some states are considering legislation to stop it. Last year, my 7-year-old was asked about my guns during his physical examination. He promptly announced to the doctor that his father is the proud owner of a laser sighted plasma rifle perfect for destroying Throggs. At least as of this writing, no police report has been filed. “I still like my previous pediatrician,” Debbie told me. “She seemed embarrassed to ask the gun questions and apologized afterward. But she didn’t seem to have a choice.” Of course doctors have a choice. They could choose, for example, to ask me about my drunken revels, and not my children. They could choose not to put my children in this terrible position. They could choose, even here in Massachusetts, to leave their politics out of the office. But the doctors aren’t asking us parents. They’re asking our kids. Worst of all, they’re asking all kids about sexual abuse without any provocation or probable cause. The American Academy of Pediatrics has declared all parents guilty until proven innocent. And then they wonder why we drink. healthcare will be the tool to bring tyrany and socialisim to the USA
It will be used to roll out the medical ID implant RFID, then once all medicine is state run behaviours will be restricted for your own good |
Precisely. THIS is one reason why we should avoid any form of government-funded OR -run healthcare.
This stuff is truly scary. |
There's no reason to take your kids to a pediatrician once they're older than 4. General Freaking Practitioner/Family Practice guy. Shop your own. Be in the room. Maybe the pediatrician is a sex criminal.

My wife is an FP doc here in MA. She has had to ask these questions as ordered to by the hospital she works for. She refuses to talk about it anymore (we used to get into a LOT of arguments about it), but I can tell she hated doing it. I don't think she asks the questions anymore, since her practice is capped (no more new patients- she is flat out too busy as it is). The point is moot. There is a new female doc in her office who is pro-gun, (she carries) who told me flat out she refused to ask the questions, and told the bosses that to do so would be a HIPAA violation. She is still working there. She knows the laws in America re firearms better than my wife does. My wife is a foreigner and not involved with firearms. |

Well of course they snoop, IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE YOUR KID.
www.aap.org/visit/bod.htm Then of course there is always The ASK Campaign
It's like biddies gone wild. |
In the future, everybody will be an inoffizieller Mitarbeiter, just like in the former East Germany. The past is prologue, as they say. |

Dr Doogooder: "Hi little lady, I need to ask you a few questions, OK?"
RM's precious:"Sure" DD: " Does your daddy own a gun... yes? Where does he keep it?" RMP: "Right now? In your waiting room on his hip , probably a couple in the car in the parking lot, uh...some by the bed, a sock drawer full, on the refrigerator... DD? Is something wrong? You don't look so good.." |
"Do you have guns in he house?" is becoming more common as well.
"Daddy has an ammo fort" |
"Why wouldn't I?", along with looking at someone like a dick is growing out of their forehead, is my standard response. |
WTF? Why was the girl alone with the doc? |
Big +1 I think they try to do this alot these days. Our Doc is a GP Fromer mil and shares the culture so no worries there. But don't worry comrade under Hillarycare the State employed doctor (Making 45k as a GS5 or some such payscale, and thus likely a felon or other dipshit) will be free to molest and do whatever they desire w/o parental interference as the mandatory exams will be conducted while in mandatory school...... which will be gaurded by GS4 armed guards preventing the disarmed parents from visiting the school with out a application to the SS(Social Services) Also there should be no reason to ask as the SS home safety study conducted at birth and randomly aftewards will find out if there are single shot rimfires in the house |

Why do people think it will take socalized health care to get to the point that a "Doctor" is an extension of the state and/or LE?
Every prescription your doctor rights is recorded by the DEA. So the GOV knows every drug your taking. Depending on state law, your doctor is obligated to inform the city, county, state of any seizures, blackouts you may have had. They will suspend your driving privledges. Mental health workers are obligated to inform city, county, state LE if they believe you are a threat to yourself or others. Or if you have commited, or plan to commit, any crimes. The interogation of children by "health professionals" is really no surprise at all. If the bank, phone company and pharmicist are an extention of the state, whats wrong with doctors spying on you as well? |
A guy in my med school class didn't go on to 3rd year. He was 'taking the year off'. It's not that unusual. Sometimes a student will take a year off to do research. It turned out that he had started a Big Brother program and was observed washing his Little Brother's penis with a washcloth in the showers at the undergrad's pool. One search warrant and hundreds of Polaroids of young boys' genitals later (he took while a camp councilor in Vermont), he found himself on the ass end of a 5 year Federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison sentence. He did the whole 5 years as part of his plea bargain. Oh yeah, surprise surprise, he wanted to become a pediatrician. I'm sure he got to play doctor in The Big House. |

The concept of a child's autonomy is due to the pro-abortion movement. The abortion lobby wants minors to be able to get an abortion without the consent of the parent or even having the parents informed of it. When it is mentioned that an abortion shouldn't be performed on a minor child without the parents knowing about it, the absurd arguement is stated that we can't have a parent notified that their daughter is having an abortion because the parent might be the father of the baby. I have never once heard anyone shoot back to such a person saying this state to the person, "So you are saying that she should get an abortion in secret so the father will be able to impregnate her again?" There are a lot of very strange things going on with law and the medical field. The American people wanted privacy in their medical treatments. What congress produced is that now we have to get a several page document that no one reads of legal mumbo jumbo and sign that we got it for every little office visit. More wasted time, more expense, more empty toner cartridges, more fucking trees cut down for no good reason. We've ended up with nurses afraid to call your name out loud in the Dr's office. Either that or some of them are just stupid. I was at a doctor's office and this person kept coming out to call patients into the office and would address the person being called back as Sir. The entire waiting room was all male and each of us would look up. After the third time of her doing this, I was about to shout, their are six sirs in here, we all have names, why don't you use them so we know who you want. Some of the older patients appeared to be in pain and recovering from surgery, and had to bend to see who the hell she was talking to. I never went back to that doctor, because I figured they were just stupid. Some of the states are so concerned about child abuse, that they themselves are responsible for abusing children by causing all sorts of tests to be done or questions to be asked of every single child. I am tired of everybody being treated like a criminal all the time. |

Answer: Let's get one thing straight. I'm the customer. You are a medical professional I wish to hire for treatment for X problem. I expect to answer questions relating to the diagnosis and treatment of x problem. I am not here to answer politically motivated questions or to inform you of my private life and philosophies. If you are not interested in operating under these terms, I will leave and you will not be paid since you have not delivered any medical treatment which is the reason I attempted to hire you. On second thought, I shouldn't have to have this conversation at all if you were a real doctor. I'm leaving. |

If you've find out they've reported you to the police, shove HIPPA up their ass. Find a hungry shark lawyer.
I strongly suspect that HIPAA has exceptions for law enforcement. |
Did you think that HIPPA would protect patient privacy? ha ha ha ha ha LE is one of the many exclusions to HIPPA You have been scammed HIPPA makes it more difficult for your loved ones to assist in yoru care and in some cases a ready made excuse for shitbags to hide behind.. I was told I couldn't have access to my own records once, that was a good laugh.... I simply said are you sure? They said yes.. and had a little smirk I had been 100% polite and nice with them, I was unhappy with the doctor and wanted my records to bring to a new doctor.. Well a mutual friend told me that there was not very much laughing going on when the Sheriff showed up with civil service papers for them and the staff refused to sign... thats another story |
If you're not breaking a crime by legally owning a gun LE isn't an exclusion. |
www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/m2e411a1.htm If the above conditions aren't met, HIPPA sanctions can be taken. |
That clause could be applied to just about any type of LE work and is most likely in conflict with manditory reporter laws... For example Suzy Socialist MD thinks that weapons in the home are dangerous and constitute child neglect and endangerment. So she contacts the CPS/SS whatever acryonymm they go by then they get a court order for those records that were allready disclosed even though it was not the actual record.... see how easy that is a perfectly lawfull activity turns into a criminal investigation thus bypassing the apperance of privacy that HIPPA was supposed to provide... Like I said HIPPA is a law that acomplishes nothing while making the quality of care for the CONSUMER* worse * Note, we don't have hillarycare yet and I will not work with a medical practice that treats me as nothing more than a walking ssn to milk my insurance/my account all the while treating me like I am so far beneith them for even daring to ask questions about proposed treatment plans... I mean how dare I take an active role in my health.... Note there are lots of great doctors left that practice medicne and not law and do it for the right reasons and I try and do everything I can to thank and reward those that actully care |
I disagree. A person owning handguns in a state where handguns are legal is not a crime. I think a sharpster lawyer could run with this on contingency. That plus a good marketing/media campaign should scare the shit out of doctors all over the state. |
Hillary's plan for socialized medicine is to not only REQUIRE you to follow their socialized medicine plan, insurance, etc. but to PREVENT YOU FROM HAVING A JOB if you don't. That's right, don't follow her plan, you can't get a job to support yourself with. And you KNOW once socialized medicine is pushed through and nobody has any choice but to follow it, they're going to institute new laws for 'health' and idiots are going to vote for it because their taxes are paying for your medical treatment, so you'd better follow the rules so their taxes don't go up. It's a beautiful trap, and we're seeing the beginning stages of it. FIGHT IT NOW, WHILE WE STILL CAN! |
The guy I work with can't see this, but he is too busy on Perez Hilton website and other stupid TV sites. |
I think I am going to make my wife memorize this, just so she can recite it whilst being accosted by medical staff. ETA: She WAS asked this a long time ago, by our current pediatrician, and she replied. "That is none of your business". His response? "No problem!" |
It is a boundary violation report it to thier governing board, talking to the Better Business Bureau might be worth your time too.
They asked my wife questions like this while she was in labor with both of our children. I'm standing there in the room with the wife (in bed), and the nurse.
Nurse: "Do you feel safe in your home?" Me: *stare* They don't even try to sneak around the issue anymore. Woman married? Make sure the guy isn't an abuser. Kids? Make sure the father isn't a sex freak. It's ridiculous. It took every ounce of energy for me not to come across the bed and shove that stupid nurse bitch out of the room. My kids are never alone with a doctor. One of us is with them at all times during a doctor visit. Any questions they want to ask my kid, they can ask while I'm present. And I can instruct my child to not answer questions if I see fit. Doc doesn't like it? They can eat my balls. |
I really hope the Republicans make this a central theme in the election. If they choose not to, then I would consider them complicit in the passage of any socialized medicine scheme. |
I dunno about the Peds guys, but you come to my office, you better be prepared to let me check out the CCW or BS about firearms in general while I'm treating you.
AFARR |
Damn f'ing straight! And not just doctors/nurses. You want to talk to my kids, you'll damn well do it in my presence. As already mentioned, when Hillary takes office and starts implementing her plans, God save us. |
They won't say a word. I watched Demolition Man last night and wept. It's a vision of the future, except ours will be far more oppressive and violent. |
No. Abortion is only a small part. The problem goes back to the counterculture's hatred of everything white and male. It used to be that government and society had respect for the family as an autonomous unit, governed by the father/husband, and government would only intervene in extreme circumstances. But since the father/husband is an evil white male, now the focus is to protect women and children from the evil things the white male is obviously planning to do to the women and children. |
That's o.k. I already know the location of all Taco Bell's in my area. When SHTF I'll be sitting pretty. |
"Does daddy have any guns?"
"DUH!!! How else is he going to kill all the fucking zombies, dumbass???!!! Medicine? Magic liberal powers??" |
They asked my wife a bunch of questions at the hospital and then handed her the clipboard and said answer these. I realized something was up and assumed it pretained to domestic violence. It did. I asked them if I could fill one out too.
I think it's bullshit. What women doesn't know that she can call the police at anytime and report DV? |

Only with a warrant. However I'd be willing to wager that 95% of ARFCOM have signed their HIPAA agreements - >90% of which in my experience allow the health care provider to disclose your health treatment information to law enforcement. I've ben to one X-ray practice and two doctors in the last year that said that I was the only patient in their memory tht actually asked for the full disclosure policy that they keep stored in a cabinet (but is a rider to the agreement you sign). Everyone acts like they are so concerned about privacy but have very little idea what they have signed away. |
Yup, saw this before with a previous doc we had.
I about came unglued when my 4yr old son is asking me how many guns I have.... because the next time he is in the dr office he has to tell him. Whisky Tango Foxtrot? Over. We had one of our first 'family meetings' on this. Its like Vegas. What happens at home stays at home. If any teacher/doctor/policeman/fireman/anyone but my wife or myelf ask ANYTHING about guns or alcohol, the answer is 'Sorry, my dad/mom will have to answer that'. We have taught our kids that the doctor/policeman/fireman/teacher/whatever is just like a stranger. You tell them nothing. They also have been told to let us know if and when people that have no right to know start asking questions like this. Assholes like this have no right to this information and we have nothing that says we have to give it. Train your kids to not give up information that isnt needed at the time. |
I thought this was interesting......it's an excerpt from a study of pediatricians who are members of the American Academy of Pediatrics. There's not much more to the full text of the article, but you can find it here.
Draw your own conclusions.
Yeah, I really can't stand the doctors I know: all their fancy NFA toys, and don't even get me started about how they can afford to blow through a case of ammo in an afternoon
I don't know any pediatricians but many of the docs I do know, I couldn't see them asking about "firearms in the home" with a straight face. These are the guys who are shopping for a 2nd (or 3rd) gunsafe |
