So we have SUV's they are not exactly "sporty", nor do they hold as much cargo as a minivan so that puts their "utility" in doubt. But they do look tough, and make the driver feel safer, stronger, more powerfull than anything short of a bigrig.
Now you have people taking $60,000 "suv's" and putting all sorts of junk into them (TV's, games, electric everything) and 24" rims with low-pro tires. These are even less sporty, and have very little utility, but allow the driver to feel like a king among men. ie. hummers, esclades, navigators, denali, anything jacked up and never used off road
Or a car based "SUV" which is not designed to have any off road ability, handles worse than the car its based on, and really does not have much more interior room (way less than a minivan), but They look cooler than cars (or minivans) and make the driver feel better about themself and their driving skills, incase it rains. ie. rav4,liberty,outback,
I say that these should be called S.E.V.'s, which stands for Self Esteem Vehicles.
anyone else think this is kind of funny?
ETA; Just so you know I actulay never laughed at the term nor do I think its "witty": I just blurted it out, then the people around me started laughing. So if you feel a need to raise your self esteem higher by bashing me go ahead but you are doing it off false pretenses. I even voted for the first choice in the poll
