Love it.
i eat it about 2 or 3 times a month....maybe more. In fact....it sounds great for dinner. |
More uncooked fish please!
Lived in Japan 3 years. 2 as a kid when my dad was stationed there and I was stationed in Okinawa for 1 year while in the Marine Corps. I love Japanese foods, esp sushi, katsudon, udon noodles/ramen, yakisoba, their weird pastries, sandwiches and bread. Surprisingly I have found a lot of great Japanese restaurants and groceries here in central Kentucky because of the large amount of Japanese employees that work at the Toyota plant and its subcontractors. Many who "hate it" won't eat it or have only tried it once. |
I could eat sushi moring, noon and night for the rest of my life!
I tried it and do not like it.
If they'd just steam the fish or something, that would help. I can't get past the raw fish part. |
hated it until I tried it. I didnt think it logical to hate somethign I never tried. Ihad some white tuna once and now I go to the all you can eat place all the time. I will eat pretty much a little of everythign they have except baby octopus adn urchin. I tried both butbthe urchin was like a blob of snot (but it did taste good) and the baby octopus was too rubbery.
What is odd is that I hate fish. I cant stand cooked fish, never have. The smell alone makes me want to puke. BUT sushi does not have the nasty cooked fish taste or smell. Its entirely different. I think I am going to pick up a slab of Yellow Fin on the way home and make a nice Tuna Tataki. |

Until recently I used to travel to Japan for work several times a year. My hosts there always took me to eat sushi, as they assumed all white-faces love it. I had to eat it to e polite, and so I learned to HATE sushi. I see nothing tasty or cosmopolitan about this crap, and I avoid it like the plague now. It sounds crass, but in the end I actually sought out McDonalds in Tokyo as it was the only place I could be assured of a decent breakfast. Actualy, McDonalds apple pies in Japan are way better than in the US, because they still deep fry them .

I was one of those who said I'd never ever touch it... then we went on our honeymoon, and it was no holds barred on trying new foods. California rolls ain't that damn bad. I do however, still have a moratorium on eating seafood when I'm more than 100 miles from a shoreline, so no sushi for me in IL.

We have this thing called refrigeration and freezers now. |

Sushi is fucking awesome...I really enjoy most Japanese foods.
used to hate sushi till I got some good sushi.
if you get high quality sushi and have someone get you started right, you'll love it. btw, sushi doesn't have to be raw. get a tempura fried roll for your first one and youll be fine |
Next time try A&W and MOS Burger. KFC is also all over Japan. The ketchup at Japanese McDonalds comes in small foil covered rectangular containers like jam at IHOP, and it tastes wrong. |
I may be redneck, trailer park, white trash, but sushi is the Bomb!! One of the guys I work with got to try the blowfish when he was in Japan. I am sooooo jealous!! Yummy!
Love the stuff
My current favorite besides a Philly roll, is a tempura-fried Cali roll w/cream cheese added insided. One place I go to serves it with eel sauce and one other kind of sauce on top, and calls it a "Las Vegas" roll on the menu. Otherwise I have to order it custom from other sushi bars. |
Love it. I fought the idea of trying it for a long time, but my friends finally got me to try it and now I could eat it all week. I just wish that it was cheaper around here.
yes, but there's no comparing the quality of the oysters and such that we can get here to what I used to get straight out of the water in Atascadero CA |

The great lakes don't have any good shellfish? |

Sushi isn't raw fish. It isn't seaweed. It isn't anything but seasoned rice.
Voted to see the results.
I never had it, but always wanted to try it. One of these days I will give it a go. |
If you ever make it to Bowling Green, drop me an IM and we'll go eat at Ichiban's. Some of the best sushi I have ever had, especially the eel. |
Love It, except never eat it before drinking copious amounts of Jagermeister I almost quit eating it after that experience.
Spiders Rolls and Toro are amazingly good. |
Not all sushi is raw. Those of you who have an aversion to raw fish should try some other types.
Sushi=teh awesome |
+1 Now I want some, too! |
If it's fresh and prepared correclty it is very good. Not for everyone though. To each his own.
my penchant for sushi along with a couple of other quirks do not fit with the rest of my stick in the mud personality
once and I did not like it |

I just ate a dozen spring rolls that I got at the grocery for $4.55...and even they were good. |

Again, sushi is NOT raw fish nor is it anything but vinegared rice.
Now when the vinegared rice is rolled with nori and other things, it is makizushi and when it is covered with a small piece of fish or other food, it is nigrizushi. |
Please leave your facts out of this. Seriously, while you may be technically correct, most Americans consider sushi to be raw fish, right or wrong. It's hopeless to argue otherwise. |
Yeah, to COOK THE RICE. And Unagi nigri IS COOKED along with MANY OTHERS. Wow, this thread is full of bigotry. |
Very true but when 99.9999% of the time folks say they want to go get sushi, the are not craving the little balls of rice but everything that goes along with it. Its pretty easy to figure someone wants more than just the little balls of rice. Dont burst a vein over it. |
I'm exceedingly fond of it and eat it at almost every opportunity. My lady has become quite a fan as well and eats it readily.
I don't much care for it. I've tried it a couple times, and the taste of some of the milder ones like tuna and mackerel isn't that bad (I don't like fish in general), but the texture is offputting.
Cucumber rolls are fine, though. |
