Anybody else?  Emily, my 8yo daughter has
been acting really insecure for the last few
weeks, worrying that the Mrs. & I wouldn't pick
her up after Girl Scouts and other activities.
She's even come to me a few times, not wanting
me to leave for short errands, saying "I'm
afraid something might happen to you and you
won't come back."  I tried in dozens of ways to
get her to open up & explain what the problem
was, and all she'd say was "I know I shouldn't
worry and be scared, but I can't help it."
[>(]

Well, last night she finally shared what was
on her mind.  It seems that a few days after the
WTC attack she was at my (dumb-ass) sister's
house, and they were discussing the attack and
our retaliation plans.  Emily had mentioned
that we were going to bomb them, and my sister
said "They've got airplanes and bombs that they
can use on us too!!"  WTF would anybody
tell an 8yo something like that???  The poor
child has been scared to death that Dad's gonna
get smoked by an Afghan air-to-surface missle
on his way to work in northwest Ohio.

I explained to her that while Afghanistan had
something that resembled an Air Force on 10/6/01, it was nothing but burnt scrap metal
pieces now.  I explained that our troops are
there, doing what Has to be done in
response to the WTC attack.  That yes, some of
them probably wouldn't make it home, and we
should (and do) pray for them, their families,
GWB & his support team.

But most importantly I explained to her, in
language appropriate for an 8yo girl that those
son-of-a-bitches started this shit with
us for no damned reason at all, and before this
is all over the USA is going to kick the f'in
shit out of their asses and turn their rocky
landscape in to a giant f'in kitty litter box.

I'd like to be the man that gets to put a .45
slug in that bastard's forehead.  NOTHING
pisses me off more than someone messing with my
kids.  NOTHING!!

Going through a bit of the same here.  It has gotten personal now that they have messed with my family.

Ditto that.

My 6 year old wants to take up Arms to protect her little sister.
She has the Blood of an American Patriot.
She knows that her ancestors served in every
major conflict that America has ever been in.

But most importantly, She Knows Jesus.
She used to be scared of the Crucifix above her bed.
Now she thanks Jesus for dieing for Us so that we may be saved.

When she gets worried about things
we talk about it.
She is old enough to understand many things,
So I talk to her as such. I don't keep things from her as she watches the news with us.

I am proud to be My Kids dad.

So you plan on shooting your sister? [:D]  Seriously, if my sister had said that to one of my kids, I'd have verbally ripped her a new ass.  You don't tell young children crap like that.  When I was 9 years old, my aunt started talking about nuclear war with russia, and said that they were putting cyanide pills in the schools so that in case of a nuclear attack the kids could kill themselves instead of having to die slowly from the effects of radation and fallout.  After that, I was a total freakin basket case.  I was terrified that there would be a nuclear war and my family would die.  I remember being in my father's office one day and just breakind down crying, screaming that I didn't want to die!  Eventually, with some common sense talking to from my parents, I got over it and realized it was a very slim chance it would happen.  But I don't think I've EVER forgiven my aunt for doing that to such an impressionable child.

Anybody else?

My 3yrd old daughter has ended up in bed with us just about every night since 9.11.  There's a noticable change in her behavior and she has bad dreams.  I've made it a point for the wife and I not to talk about it in front of her and to keep the news coverage to a minimum.  I've also asked her that if she and her mother are going to discuss it during their daily errand running that they should try and do it when Haley isn't around.

Good luck, and I hope she gets completely over it.

God Bless Texas
