AR15.com members will have no trouble spotting the "problem."

The only question that remains is: "Who is the political idiot that ordered this?"

What, the stealth mag conversion?  [whacko]

You realize that picture had to be posed...

You mean the dark haired middle-eastern fellow that is about to pull a knife out of his chin-scabbard?

This isn't funny at all. When I go to Penn Station in NYC I see a bunch of Guardsmen on "patrol" but not one of them is armed.  I stopped and talked to one of them and asked why that is so...they were told (and inspected) they couldn't have M16's, sidearms, and even knives! WTF??? That's the equivalent of putting on my police uniform but taking away my body armor and 9mm's!  Well at least they have radios so they can scream for help should anything go wrong.  I say give 'em all the firepower possible, we are at war last I checked[heavy][50]

They want to give the public the warm and fuzzy feeling of extra security without looking too aggressive. Personally its BS.

It's more than just B.S. It is a endangering the life of the soldier. He/she is being placed in harm's way and an unarmed target.

It is disgusting that our citizen/soldiers are placed in this position. We either trust our military and Nat'l guard, or we are in deep $hit as a Democratic Republic. [:(]

My take on it: If you can't trust your troops, train 'em till you can - or cashier them out of the service. If the problem is with the military/civilian leadership - they should be forced to resign.

I thought they had outlawed high capacity magazines............. and this is the new single shot version - "do it for the children"

A kinder gentler nation!

You know, all this unloaded weapons crap is such B.S.  They say they don't want to appear intimidating, but I'll bet 9 out of 10 sheeple don't even know there isn't a magazine in the gun.

No, you don't sound like a dumbass. There are many Guard units out there that have very old weapons in their armories just like the M-16 that Soldier is "armed" with.

Hi all.

I'm pretty sure the guy is Air Force not Army.
The lower receiver is an early one. Note the "unfenced" mag release button. The Air Force has tons of these pre-A1's still in inventory.

Sharps

I know when I deployed to Haiti, I found it amazing that all the Army troops were carrying unloaded pistols and rifles. I later learned that my Air Force Security Forces are one of a very few in the U.S. military that carry loaded weapons everyday.

FYI, I am now a Combat arms troop in the Air Force, so I work on M-16's everyday and I can tell you there are very few M-16's left now. We have converted almost all to M-16A2 now. Original 16's are few and far between. All that is left of the original rifle is the lower, almost all other parts are replaced w/ A2, to include complete upper and burst fire.
