The casters are in place!

The cart leans forward a little bit, which is a good thing since there's so much weight at the rear. This makes it less likely to fall over backwards when it's empty. There's also a small 2x4 triangle behind the support to make it a bit more secure. [img]http://www.petenelson.com/Photos/Misc/Woodworking/Range%20Cart/08%20-%20Front%20support.jpg[/img] Here's the handle, which is just a replacement shovel handle. It's screwed into a trimmed piece of 2x4, which I managed to split while trying to get handle and the mount put together. I used some wood glue and screws to secure it all, so it should be ok. The brackets are the kind used for electrical conduit. I had to bend them outwards a bit or they wouldn't securely hold the handle on the back of the cart. [img]http://www.petenelson.com/Photos/Misc/Woodworking/Range%20Cart/10%20-%20Almost%20done.jpg[/img] Here I have added the door pulls, which is where the bungee cords will attach to hold everything on the cart. The wood strips I added on the front are 1" wide pieces of plywood, with the cross piece 11 5/8" back from the front. This is where my ammo cans will go. Any suggestions on what else I should do with it? I might paint it, not sure what color yet though. |

It looks like it would be perfect for fun shows. I think I could haul pretty good amount of the supersize bags of kettle korn on one of those things.

heres my 3 suggestions -- get rid of the casters, they work ok on hard flat surfaces, but if you have to go over grass or rocky dirt areas it will be more like dragging the cart around. use large rubber (solid or inflatable) golf cart tires would work, radio flyer wagon type.
if for some reason you dont use ammo cans, you could steal a plastic milk jug crate from a grocery store and put that in the ammo area or on top the cans to carry more stuff. maybe add a pouch to the front under the handle carry small loose stuff, or a folder for targets. the cowboy action shooters build carts like these to haul around all there gear. |

Neat Idea. Looks like it will serve your purpose nicely.

I agree with Saiga12, those castors will hang up on a spent .22 case while rolling on concrete. I like your Idea though! |

Agree on with Saiga12 and getting bigger wheels.
But try it firts and see how it fairs. From the pictures it seems that the side supports are made of MDF Particle Board. May I suggest you switch to plywood for durability and if planning on heavier loads a diagonal piece of either wood or metal from the top to the end lip. I think paint will be a good idea to protect it from rain. My color choice will be either black or OD. Then you can add your own " evil" stencils or stickers, ie. HK no compromise, Colt, protected by... Quality Parts etc. Very nice idea. |

Cowboy action shooters have been using these for years. Hi-power target shooters are finally catching on. Get rid of the small casters, use at least a 8" tire if not bigger. Pnuematic or semi-pnuematic is the only way to go, if you don't believe the rest of us you'll find out the hard way. Also you don't want more weight in front of the wheels than on them, for balance reasons.

That's a good idea and it should work fine.
I would have started with a dolly and then maybe weld an extention plate to the base, and add some wood sides. This would have given you the reason to get a mig welder. |

Ya, get yourself some inflatable knobbie tires, one of them there 100cc Yamahas w/tuned expansion chamber pipe, a front wheel for steering and of course a BMG mounted on the front!

I should have cut the sides to macth the profile of a .223 cartridge. [:)]
Bigger rubber tires is a good idea. Using casters was a concern, but they were all I could find for the time being. Easy enough to change later anyway. |

DVDTracker, how easy is the thing to handle? I noticed that you have the heavy ammo cans a long way from the fulcrum. A taller model with the rifles on a shelf, with the ammo cans under, might be easier to handle.
What color to paint it? OD, of course. Krylon OD from Wal Mart is cheap.z |

Got the new wheels on tonight, mostly. I need to find some locknuts rather than the regular nuts that are on there now and scrape out some of the wood glue in the corner so the washers sit flat. Works pretty good with the new tires though! Thanks to slo5oh and sfoo for helping me decide on how to mount these.
