Just in case you haven't been watching the news lately, evil assault weapon sales are at an all time high.  Gun stores are running dry of everything from revolvers to shotguns to semi-auto rifles.  The people coming here probably did a search on their computer for "ar-15" to find some more information about the firearm they just bought.  ar15.com comes up on the first page of a word search on AOL and Yahoo.  I don't find the influx at all surprising.

Now when these newbies start asking us how to convert their new rifles to full-auto is when I'll start screaming troll.

"Do what you will,
just give the 'all these new guys are JBTs out to take our guns away' rant a rest."

rg00red- That was my initial thought as well. Even my local gun shop sold of the Sport Utility Rifles that had been collecting dust for months, in a matter of days after 9/11-

But it works both ways.
The nature of this site, and others like is, definitley is a "red-flag" in the mind of Big-Brother...
CNN did a story about the gubment "monitoring sites that discuss stockpiling weapons, and"...
you get the point.
I think after 9/11, a lot of do-gooders woke the fuck up, and went out and got an efficient tool to protect themselves. No doubt.

But another byproduct of 9/11 is government scrutiny of websites- just like this one.

Matter of fact, let's just say this one in particular.

I'm a first time buyer of AR-15, and a newbie here too.  I have lots of other stuff, but I've always wanted an AR.  Went through google, found this site, and the rest is history!

I now have an OLY, and a bunch of ammomans Q3131A.

This site, and you folks were a tremednous help. Thanks!

Great, that's all we need, more fear mongering.

Even if your "suspicions" are founded, act no different than before the putative "influx of infidels."  If you don't want undesirables knowing about you, then as a general rule, don't post personel stuff on the web.  If you got nothing to hide, don't fricken worry about it and live your life.

I am a realativly new member, and soon to be first tim AR buyer. however, as a military retiree very familure with AR style weapons (I carried an M-16A1 for 9 years) and the fact that I have been planning the purchase for the past 2 years dosent make me a "reactive"  fire arms purchaser. The fact is I have been accumulating parts for some time because I look forward to building my AR. The satisfaction of completeing the first build is as good as the first shot.     [:)>]

Yeah, I admit it. I've never owned a firearm, haven't even owned six or seven pre-bans from back when there wasn't such thing as a "ban."
I'm just here to get all the survivalist information I can and then I'm high tailing it to the mountains and wait for judgement day, you know it's coming soon.

Naw, that's all bull, I'm just a victim of bad timing. Been an AR owner/shooter/enthusiast for years, figured it was high time I sought out others like me. Seems like I made the right decision settling here.

I've been on AR15 since May, I did'nt buy one till September, but I've shot many for years, also in full auto. The 9/11 did have a little to do with, did'nt know if I'd get one with the way there flying off the shelves, and happen to have the bucks for one, got a Colt 16"er and love it. My purchase was greatly on the info you guys provided, and I can't thank you guys enough!

I just joined, but I've been reading the posts on ar15 on and off for a while.  Just because I joined last month don't think I'm a newbe to shooting.  I have over 40 years experience.  My joining had nothing to do with 9/11.

OK, I'm new to site also, but, not new to AR's.
Doing 7 years in US Army, the last weapon I carried was the M16 Carbine. And since I liked this weapon, it was a natural to own. Now how do I get a M249?????

I don't think this is fear-mongering at all.  I agree that we are probably a lot more watched since 9/11 than we were before, and this should serve as a reminder to be carefull about anything personal or questionable that you post.  The powers that be are a little jumpy right now.

Right, so don't post anything that would inculpate you in criminal activity.  That pretty much goes for anytime and anywhere, unless you want to spill your guts regarding a crime you committed.  If that's the case, do it somewhere else, like a police station.

They could be also looking for shirts. I just got my AR15United we stand shirt. A few people at work liked it. A couple people saw AR15.com and said "I have to go to that web site and get me on". These were people who had no idea what AR15 stands for.

PS. Anyone have any silencers for sale? MG lowers? Please send me your home address and I will mail you a check.

Well, I'm a first time AR buyer myself.  I have not been in the military, so I have no formal training with said firearm.  I'm not a dumbass weiner reactive buyer.  I sold a bolt action rifle and bought a lower receiver right before 9/11, so I was planning on building an AR for a while.  My main intention is to try to compete in some High Powered Rifle competitions, and maybe some practical rifle comps.

Like I mentioned, I'm not a dumbass, so before I even go near the range with my AR (when I get the parts, and get it all together!), I will know how it functions, and how to take it down and put it all back together.  I will try to find some training, as far as the highpower rifle competition goes, as I've never done it, and I'm not familiar with the shooting positions.
(anyone in the Austin, TX area that is, and wouldn't mind helping out a newbie would be appreciated!)

Every time I buy a new sporter (we aren't allowed to own any thing that has the word AR-15 stamped on it here in the great state of NJ), my palms sweat, my fingers tremble, my lips smack with anticipation, and I stay up nights fondling it.  In other words, I feel like a newbie.  Does that count?

Just to clear the air.  I don't own an AR or anything resembling a gun.  I buy hunting licenses every year, but do not hunt.  I frequent my local range, but I always borrow someone elses guns.  All of the credit card reciepts from gun shops are for non-gun related items.  The records of my attending gun shows are because I like to buy army canteens. (boy, I'm a NUT for non-combatant military surplus!)  All that money I spent on q3131a is really just a mis-understanding as it happens to be the model number of the vcr I bought! (to think that it also refers to some kind of rifle ammo!).  All websites that I have visited that refer to firearms, porn or non-politically correct behavior were stumbled upon purely by accident.  Those that I have stumbled upon repeatedly just shows how stupid and irresponsible I am.  Thank GOD that I have a government that can protect me from myself! Wrong.  When parts of a subject are separated by "or" or "nor", the verb must agree with the "nearest part".  Meaning, if the noun nearest to the verb is singular, then the  verb is singular (regardless of the use of the two pronouns).  Ergo, since "anyways" is singular (one of two words- each singular- making up the subject), the use of the verb "is" is correct.

I believe my source would be one of many rules found in Little, Brown, if I recall correctly (and I do).
