What is lacking in your collection?

Pistols, Rifles, Shotguns????

If you dont currently own an AK, then... YES... everyone needs at least one, just like AR's.

Arsenal SA-M7.  It's the shit.

With $500 you can buy an AK (Mak 90 or SAR-1 is a good start)with 5-7 hi-cap mags and and 1000rds of ammo. You can't go wrong with a deal like that.

what is the web address to SOG..I can't find it.

Also what would be the best AK to buy staying under $500..not counting mags or ammo...just the AK itself..thanks again

Arsenal's SA-M7 is around $500... and is the shit.

Check out ak.ar15.com

Lots of good info there.

Otherwise, the bulgarian SLR-95's are nice.

Chinese MAK90's are good, ~$400

Romainian SAR-1's are cheap, and need a little TLC to be "pretty"... but they offer more bang for the buck than anything else.

SAR-2's are cool if you want to end up with something similar to the battle proven AK-74 carried today by so many countries.

Medcop, definitely get an AK, preferably a MAK90.  I have shot several types and the MAK90 is by far the best AK in the lower price ranges.  I have heard that SAR's are okay but sometimes have weaker internal parts, like trigger/disconnect/etc.  You can expect to pay anywhere from $275-$400 for a quality AK/MAK90.

Go to the AK board here and look for a poster named CAMPYBOB, he knows everything about AKs.  Also look for a poster named Recon here or at ASSULTWEB.com ot other AK boards.  He usually hangs out in the for sale forums.  Recon is a great guy that sells lots of AK rifles and parts.  He is a very trustworthy and upstanding guy to do business with.

Also, if you paln on putting a scope on a AK you will need one with a side rail attached, the receiver type scope rails are worthless.

E-mail me if you want any more info.

Sgtar15

Edited to add Campybob's e-mail [b][email protected] [/b[].  I got this from www.assultweb.com, so it was already public knowledge.

Correction... the receiver COVER type scope mounts are worthless.

Side rails rock... but there is another option.  You can get the one piece type that replaces the pins thru the receiver with screws and studs, and those work very well... albeit very large.

Yea, that's what I meant.  I see I wasn't clear enough, thanks.

I did find RECON's e-mail also, it to was public [email protected] .  Like I said, he is a great guy and I would easily do business with him anytime.

Medcop,

If you can afford it, I'd reccomend you go w/a VEPR II. It's about $550 most decent places. tennesse guns and impactguns.com both have them at that price. You can choose caliber (.223, .308, and a few others) they accpet hi-cap mags, shoot under 1 moa, etc. . .

www.robarm.com for more info. also, www.ak-47.net has a lot of reviews, pics, etc. . . .

later,
Justin

I just got my VEPR II yesterday.  All I can say is WOW!  It is the most beautifully finished AK I've ever seen.  Here's a pic:

I can't wait to get out to the range to test it out.  I just hope all the praise I've heard about it's accuracy is true.
