I think India is using a L1A1. Brazil produces FAL's, so I think that was once their battle rifle too. Most are going to 5.56mm.

I was doing some reading earlier tonight and according to my books both Brazil and India was using FAL variants. Theyclosed saying they were going to switch to something in 5.56 but I don't have more recent informations. I would like to know what is the latest issue rifles are. |

Turkey - ???
Japan - Type 89 Sweden - Bofors AK5 (FNC Variation) Argentina - FARA 83 & FAL & ??? Brazil - FAL & MD2 (5.56 FAL) & ??? India - L1A1 & whatever they can get their hands on Spain - CETME Models C & L (Recently out of production due to the availability of cheap M16s) |

Turkey relies on the H&K G3
India also uses the G3 (amongst others) and there local version of the Galil. Some Brazilian units also use the FN P90. cheers, RG.nl |

Argentina uses FMAP contracted FN-FALs
Finland uses the Valmet, not Sweden. |

Thought that Spain was going with the H&K G36 because the CETME 5.56 was a bad design. I think I saw the pic. and info on HKPRO. A buddy of mine just got back from a year tour in Cosivo (I think that is how it is spelled) with the UN. He said his unit was getting HK G36's any day and that the UN "Cops" were going to all be out fitted with them. Sounds like the G36 is getting popular in the big E.

India--I don't think the L1A1 is that widely used anymore. More typical would be a Czech-made AK-47 (in semiauto) and their new rifle now being deployed is the INSAS, which is 5.56 and even takes USGI magazines. I think they also use Druganov sniper rifles.

in Jane's gun guide, the japanese use a rifle that seems like some sort of FNC derivative. it appears ergonomic. chambered in 5.56mm. it does not look exactly like any other mouse gun i can think of.

Turkey-G3 I think they are going to the G36 soon
Japan-Type 89 Sweden-AK5 a modified FN FNC Brazil-MD2 based on the FN FAL in .223 but has a large stock of FN FALs 7.62 Argentina-FARA 83 do not know is FN FAL is still in front line service. India-INSAS, AK47, and FN FAL. INSAS production has been slow. AK47 was order within the last two years to supplement the Indiaian army until INSAS reaches in quanity. Spain- resently adpoted the G36 may still have model L in service. M15A2, current counties adpoted the FN FNC: Belgium, Sweden, and Indoenia. |
