I think India is using a L1A1. Brazil produces FAL's, so I think that was once their battle rifle too. Most are going to 5.56mm.

I was doing some reading earlier tonight and according to my books both Brazil and India was using FAL variants.  Theyclosed saying they were going to switch to something in 5.56 but I don't have more recent informations.  I would like to know what is the latest issue rifles are.

Turkey relies on the H&K G3

India also uses the G3 (amongst others) and there local version of the Galil.

Some Brazilian units also use the FN P90.

Argentina uses FMAP contracted FN-FALs

Finland uses the Valmet, not Sweden.

Thought that Spain was going with the H&K G36 because the CETME 5.56 was a bad design. I think I saw the pic. and info on HKPRO. A buddy of mine just got back from a year tour in Cosivo (I think that is how it is spelled) with the UN.  He said his unit was getting HK G36's any day and that the UN "Cops" were going to all be out fitted with them. Sounds like the G36 is getting popular in the big E.

India--I don't think the L1A1 is that widely used anymore.  More typical would be a Czech-made AK-47 (in semiauto) and their new rifle now being deployed is the INSAS, which is 5.56 and even takes USGI magazines.  I think they also use Druganov sniper rifles.

Japan's still using the Type 89??  That's like the US turning in their M16's for Mausers (which is still superior to the 89).
No wonder they haven't been fighting in any wars lately.

Here are few other countries I can confirm from recent first hand knowledge:

Norway - H&K G3
S. Korea - Daewoo K1 carbine (limited) and K2 rifle (general issue)
Poland - Local AK variant (in 5.56?)

in Jane's gun guide, the japanese use a rifle that seems like some sort of FNC derivative. it appears ergonomic. chambered in 5.56mm. it does not look exactly like any other mouse gun i can think of.

Here is a link to the history of rifles used by Spain. Mostly CETME, but I was right, they are now issuing the G36.

Does any country use the FN FNC?

A quote from the article
Semiautomatic-only versions of the FNC are distributed in the U.S. by Gun South, Inc. (Dept. SOF, P.O. Box 129, Trussville, AL 35173). The charging U.S. dollar and sagging U.S. sales have dropped the suggested retail price of these rifles by $335 over the past three years. The standard model with rigid buttstock now sells for $729 and the para for $760. This price puts them in line with the Colt AR15A2, [green]but the gun itself is not as good as the Colt.[/green]

EDIT:
The article also answered my question but I cant read. haha  Indonesia and Sweden. The article was published in 1985, prices subject to change.
