Congressional Record--Appendix, pp. A34-A35

Current Communist Goals

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Thursday, January 10, 1963

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.

At Mrs. Nordman's request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following "Current Communist Goals," which she identifies as an excerpt from "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen:

[From "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen]

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting po

(continued)

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

re: Internet hoax. I DOUBT an Internet hoax would give a clear citation to the Congressional Record, which is EASILY verifiable. But anyone interested can check it out for themselves,as follows:

Note by Webmaster: The Congressional Record back this far has not been digitized and posted on the Internet.

It will probably be available at your nearest library that is a federal repository. Call them and ask them.

Your college library is probably a repository. This is an excellent source of government records.

Another source is your Congress Critters. They should be more than happy to help you in this matter.

I don't doubt that the book exists, just wether the author "made up" the goals to reinforce his point about the evils of communism.

You sound like YOU are uncomfortable with the truths presented.

I've heard of the book from several sources, and the "tone" of the book, and the Congressional record material is consistent with MANY other sources contemporary to the time.

I don't know the FIRST thing about you, but you SOUND like a typical Liberal Dem who has NO compunction about throwing around allegations of questionable validity, solely for the purpose of discrediting something you don't like.

I've listed my souces. Check 'em out. If you can find and contradiction or error in them, point it out SPECIFICALLY. I'll be glad to accept your documented corrections. But these milk-toast unfounded claims you make are tired and rather lame.

Gus Lasarkis, eh?? Any relation to Gus Hall???? [:D]

The methodlogy detalied in the 40 some points above can be summarized as follows:

1. Discredit the existence of God, Discredit His book. Remove the restraints He sets on mankind with regard to sexaul morality.

2. Do all you can to further the welfare of Communist sympathetic organizations, and nations.

3. Use student newspapers, student protests, teh media, radio, TV, and motion pictures even artwork to reinforce and indoctrinate Communist / Marxist ideals, and the notion of mans freedom from the existence of God.

4. tear down traditional American institutions, the Constitution, teh Founding Fathers, their ideals, values and morals. Protect obscenity under the guise of "free speech" and shackle religious speech under the guise of teh "separatiion of church and state."

5. Indoctrinate children with free education for all children in public schools (This is the tenth measure of Marxism)

6. Remove all firearms from teh citizenry. With both God, guns, and American ideals gone from society, people will have no competing allegiances, and won't have the capacity to challenge the "state."

7. Create a super-dependency on the state by teh people, so that the people dare NOT bite the hand that feeds them.

This is why, IMO, is it self-defeating to argue FOR firearms rights, and AGAINST Marxist / socialist / big gov't mandates, from a position that discounts the importance of God and religious, moral mandates. You are putting yourself in a position of weakness, 'cuz the enemy has a master plan he is implementing, while you are too focused on a single objective. You are trying to win a battle, and the enemy is fighting to win the whole war.

Easy, there, buddy.

I'm not saying that some of horrible things have not come to pass, I just doubt if they are the result of some secret plan unearthed by the author of the book and spoken about by the legislator.

If you look at the list of "goals" you will see that most of these are "knee jerk" issues with the "red-scare" constituency of the 60's.

Now, you don't have to convince me of the evils of communism.  The evidence is apparent to most people. But when we make things up, things that are eventually disproven, the conservative movement ends up with "egg on its face."

When we say "current communist goals" do we mean an historical directed policy towards subverting the country?

Again, easy.  Someone who disagrees with you is not always your enemy.

I KNOW I come across heavy handed, but I think it finally got you to state where you stand re: the subject matter. Your earlier posts were somewhat obtuse, IMO and to my reading.

NO DOUBT false postings and interent hoaxes make conservatives lok bad. I've personally had to retract the "libertys teeth" quote. But it doesn't help when you discredit someone elses post WITHOUT direct knowledge of error, just 'cuz it "sounds" like a possible "urban legend." Its NOT helpful at all.

You said "I just doubt if they are the result of some secret plan unearthed by the author of the book and spoken about by the legislator."

NO ONE said that THESE individuals unearthed the plan - its actually common knowledge to many, many people. The communists have a holistic approach to teh destruction of America. IMO, many peoples distaste for religion blinds them to the methodolgy being used, and that hurts us all.

I like to expose poeple to the mindset being used by the Left. granted, most people will dismiss it as "unlikely" much as you have. But it sets the mind thinking. And then as we all become wiser over time, we can determine the validity of these ideas.

You asked "When we say "current communist goals" do we mean an historical directed policy towards subverting the country?"

Well, obviously, "current" in that context meant the time period when teh entry was made to teh Congressional record - 1963. But, if you look at teh direction America has taken since then, you see the Left has been masterfully effective in implementing what back then was their "current goals." As such, they are also their 2001 goals, to the extent that they ahve not moved past them, on to the next steps of their overall plan.

Heck, if you are a 2nd Amendment / RKBA supporter, you ain't my enemy. Ain't no way. I'm just disheartened  by teh number of "good people" who dismiss these ideas as "outlandish" and either refuse to look into them, or dismiss them out of hand as "unlikely."

I don't really believe that there are too many conspiracies going on. You know, the kind where one person whispers into another's ear or the secret meeting stuff. What I do believe is that there are actions that are the product of beliefs. Get enough people believing in something and poof!...Looks like a conspiracy. I think that is what's going on here. Not everyone believing exactly the same thing, but enough people believing parts of Marxism to be correct. There was an interesting discussion on McCarthyism the other day. Main point was that McCarthy was wrong because it should be OK to believe in Communism. Very well, but it should be a crime to enact Communist laws!

I'm not really sure that this ? has to do with the topic at hand, but I'll try to answer anyway.

If by Taiwan you mean the free Chinese, in contrast to the Red Chinese, I would LOVE to arm them, thereby giving them the means to defend themselves from the Red Chinese. And by all accounts, they want to fight THEIR OWN battles - all they need are the tools.

The "outcome" you refer to would be either no war at all, or a very short war, IMO. The CHiComs want pushovers - they want no part of a free people defending their homeland against an army-for-hire in teh Red Chinese. disarmed free Chinese would be pushover - armed Taiwanese / Free Chinese would kick @$$ (pardon my French) Peace thru stength, baby.

The "few billion bucks" are irrelevant.

Again. not sure what this has to do with teh price of tea in COmmunist China.

It is kinda off, but it is in today's papers.
So you think an armed Tiawan would "push"
over Red China, with their huge combative
numbers? You can't be serious.
A Red China conflict would be very bad.
I think of VN times one hundred : (

(HEAVY SIGH)

Where did I say the Taiwanese would "push over" the Chinese?? Jewbait, please report to remedial reading class, or at least, remedial understanding class.

I REPEATEDLY USED the term "DEFEND" when talking about the Taiwanese. They would DEFEND their home territory quite well.

You brought up 'Nam. Which only serves to make my point. A bunch of barefooted, ill-trained, rice paddy dwellin', illiterate, dirt farmin', teenagers with CRAP Ak47's and SKS defended their home territory and gave a SERIOUS bloody nose to the BEST army in the world, with the BEST technology in the world.

Why?? They were DEFENDING their home turf. Which is exactly what I said about the Taiwanese. The point being that if the Taiwanese then ALSO had some of our better (not even our BEST) technology, the Chicoms would want NO PART OF invading the Taiwanese homeland.

Peace thru strength. AS I said, an armed Taiwan would likely avoid war altogether.

It never ceases to amaze me the inability to read, and comprehend, even the simplest concepts. AS well as the tendency to disregard what some ACTUALY says, and then put other words in their mouth. You sound like a foreign national, so I'll chalk it up to a translational matter.
