I'll google it, brb.

EDITED:  OK, she's a character in "The Honeymooners."  Did her husband threaten to send her to the moon or something?  I've never seen that show.

I'm 28, and I used to watch the Honeymooners as a kid, when I was on summer vacation.

In today's PC society, it'd be constituted as spousal abuse.  The running gag is that one of these days, her old man's gonna pop her hard enough to send her to the moon.

I just showed it to MrsSubnet, and she laughed her ass off. I honestly didn't think she'd ever seen the show.

On the show, every time Alice backtalked Ralph (Jackie Gleason's character) or otherwise pissed him off, he'd ball up his fist and threaten to punch her to the moon.

Of course, he never actually punched her... it was all in good fun back then but in today's PC world, the feminists would raise holy hell if a man tried to keep his pimp hand strong.

Just look at any modern sitcom and they all have the same basic premise:  the woman is smarter, more organized, and more dominant than the man.  Anytime there is a decision, the man screws it up and the woman has to fix everything.  When there's an argument, the woman displays her dominance and the man cowers like a dog that's been whipped with a knotted rope.

But we all know he would never hit his wife.

Jackie Gleason was a man of class, on screen and off.

Would have made a good series finale though. Same as on Every body loves Raymond. I hoped he would kill Debra, grind her up and make her into chilli and feed it to the homeless

They used to play re-airs of that when I was a kid.  Good stuff, especially when you consider the times & the fact that it was all done live.  I remember a Christmas-time episode where Jackie Gleason introduces & gives credit all his costars & thanks the audience right there "live" (taped show for us later younglings) after the end of the story.

Talented folks.

If they ever do send a woman to the moon, I guarantee you she'll find something to bitch about and/or change.
