I was an informant today against a young fellow who need locked up,
in his room with his dad.

I was told by my son that his little girlfriend told him not to tell anyone,
but her little brother (9 years old) has been taking a rifle out of their
dads gun cabinet and playing with it. He said that it is a key open job
and not a dial, like mine, then he told me that the boy shot a hole in
the ceiling that their parents haven't seen yet. My son supposedly
wasn't there at the time and it's just what she told him.
Well I did it for the children, I ratted him out and explained that kids
talk big and it may have not even happened, but maybe the parents
should be looking for holes to prove or disprove the story. I also told
them that a hole in the ceiling may not be a problem but they better
get to the bottom of this before it becomes a hole in a neighbor kid.
My kid is no longer allowed over there if they can't watch any better
than that.

Im glad you did, but especially that you kept it between families. Too many folks today would rather get "Authorities" involved, instead of being PART of their community. This seems to be how stuff (even severe [to a kid]stuff) was solved by our dads on the block back in my childhood.

Good job. When it comes to kids fucking around with guns, there is nothing wrong with calling a cease fire.

If someone was fucking around on the range, you would do the same wouldn't you?

This is a true story. When I was 13, three houses down, the parents of the kid were at a PTA meeting. The kid that lived there got his farther's hand gun and was playing around and he fired the gun. Well another kid was there and on the phone and was hit in the eye with a .38. Its believd he was dead before he hit the ground. I was friends with both of them and glad I wasn't in the house that night.

You did the right thing.

You did good by keeping this between your families. I commend your sense of discretion and propriety in this matter. It wasn't anything the cops needed to be involved in.

I have known the dad since he was a kid himself and am good friends with
the brother of the mom, so knowing them made it easier to tell them, even
though I don't know them real well. I do know that they are a little strange,
and are a little lacks on discipline so they may have taken the boy out for
ice cream. When I hear something out of this I'll report back.

*Update*

I have finally found out what has happened here. The kids got a good stern
talking to and three firearms have gone by way of the open market. The father
sold his firearms to his brother so they will no longer be in the house, they
searched and could find holes in the walls or ceiling so there is a good chance
the girl was just talking. I'm not so sure I would have got rid of the firearms,
but instead faced the problem headon on re-tought some weapons respect.

I'd like to think that if me boys were ever playing with my guns and someone else found out that they would tell me before something terrible happened. I would appreciate the call if it were me. I say you've done good.

Also, all my guns are in a gun safe.

It was the right thing to do, my cousin was shot in the neck with a .357magnum, which her friend thought was unloaded. 13years old, she lived for 10minutes gasping for life and died before the ambulance arrived.

firearm safety is very important and if a child is getting hold of a loaded weapon and handling it unsafely/without parental supervision that SHOULD NOT be allowed

someone could/will get hurt/killed

spot on for telling the parents
