A friend of mine bought a Mini-14 and asked me what kind of mags work.
I can't remember.
I had one back in 1984 and had some 30rounders that worked fine.

I advised him to buy an AR but he found a deal on a Mini-14.

I love Mini-14 and Ranch rifles and still have several in my safe.  Factory 20 and 30 rounds are very reliable.

Factory Ruger mags by far... if you can spare an arm and a leg...

Otherwise PMI for metal and Thermold for polymer... and they ain't likely to be cheap either...

I like my mini14 ranch a lot. . . factory mags and I believe PMI mags are the best. I have 3 USA 30 rnders that work fine, but I'm probably very lucky.

This is one of those topics that comes around every couple of weeks.  I have several Federal Ordnance, Inc., 20 rounders, both in blued and nickel (looks like stainless), and they all work well im my Mini.  There are no markings on the mags.  Someone (Troy?) has said they thought these were made by PMI.

Mini 14 mag trick: buy Ruger followers for your commercial magazines.  They sell the 5 rd follower which will work for others.   PMI seems to be the best besides factory.

I have some factory and usa's I don't generaly use the factory because I'm think I'm going to ruin them or something (paranoid) The USA work fine for me, also USA has A warranty garanteed to feed. I would contact them for more info.

For being half the price of factory mags, the PMI mags are the best prices especially for the reliability which tends to be comparative to the factory mags.

The best mags I ever found for a Mini were the Ramline mags that were supposed to work in an AR15, an AR180, and the Mini. They didn't work worth a crap in the 15 or the 180 as they were way too tight in the mag well. However, they worked perfectly in the Mini. I don't believe that you can them new anymore, but keep your eyes open at gun shows.

LG...

Are you referring to the plastic 'AR15/Mini-14 dual purpose' units...

We didn't have the same results you did... they screwed up in both... just in different ways...

Strange things can happen tho... to include a Ramline or USA mag that actually works... ;)

Well, db, I have used Ramlines in my lone Mini for years, nary a problem.
