David Hackworth (www.hackworth.com) has a letter posted on his web site written by a West Point grad who spent 2 years in Afghanistan working with the UN mine program. Very interesting analysis of the situation and the mindset over there. (When the US gave one ethnic group Stingers to fight the Russians, they were attacked by an "allied" ethnic group and the Stingers captured because of the prestige factor of having them.) It appears that the Taliban has been steadily losing the support of the Afghans and having to bring in more and more non-Afghans to maintain troop strength.
