Ya, no kidding. I take off for a few months over the summer when we had maybe 500 on at one time. And when I get back we are over 2000. WTF! Where did all these people come from and who are they?im not saying its a bad thing, just curious coz I havent seen this many new people since ive been here.(3 years now) Did we have a surge of people after the attacks on 9/11 ?

I have been thinking the same thing.
There has been a big jump in Newbies since 9/11. I guess a lot of folks are waiking to the fact they need to protect themselves. LotBoy, I am one of those haters.[:D][uzi] |

2:30 this morning there were 50 users and over 1,200 guests. I still think it's the Feds, or class assignments for college courses. Hey, maybe it's Bin Laden and the Taliban. They probably heard how we've been disrespecting them. Lock and Load, boys.

I'm thinking glitch also. Before 7am on the East Coast here and these are the current stats.
1500 seems just too high. Maybe a few hundred but 1500? There are 32 Users and 1523 Guests browsing the boards. (1555 Total Users) |

not a software glitch, but someone out there could be trying to hammer the site to try to slow it down...
Since it obviously isn't working (yeah me!) and I'm not insulted at this point, i wont touch the logs to check for a culprit. I would assume its that pig moron, but with a modem he's wasting his time more than ours. ]=) As for how the online count is handled in the code, the number is VERY accurate and not stored or held like on other sites. Think how annoying it is to get logged out every 10-15 minutes and realize that these counts are updated every second expiring a number of accounts after 15 mins of idle time. Most sites run 30-45 mins of idle easy... some 1-2 hours... Imagine the counter then!!! ]=) |

There are bound to be (statistically) a few legit .gov's, and some .mil's as well. These of course would be from people who work at .gov/.mil sites and happen to be perusing the site from that workplace.
I'm not sure how computer savvy the alphabet-soup types are, but if they have any sense at all they'd at least take the time to get an inconspicuous ip address. My 0.02 dollars. Viper Out |
