I recieved a few old pics from a friend.  I scaned some of them into my computer.  I figured this would be the quickest way to find out what kind of plane this is!

Thanks in advance!

Corsair? Not a Thunderbolt?

I am thinking Corsair.

Corsair, the big Pratt & Whitney Radial engine is a give away, can make out the gull wings.

Ryan XFR-1 Fireball

...and it's a hybrid...

...see the jet intakes?

...see the jet exhaust?

...that there is a jet-piston hybrid, ladies and gentlemen!!!

I think the wings don't look quite right to be a Corsair.  They do look rather like an inverted gullwing, but the angles are too sharp, and I don't see the gullwing at the back of the wings.

SNIP...

This has to be the answer, I did a search on yahoo after Aerospace_Engineer posted the answer!

Not with those inboard leading edge protrusions.
I think.

Yep, it is a F4U Corsair.  The angle makes the gullwing look straight, and exaggerates the cooling scoops on the inboard leading edge, but that is a Corsair.

I gotta go with the XFR-1 Fireball, prop looks too small to be an F4U.

But the back of the corsairs wing is different where it meets the body, it doesn't tapper away like the one in the picture(or however u'd describe that.)

Definately a Ryan Fireball.  This id card shows the wing shape better.

I was gonna say Corsair, but then AeroE beat us all at the "name the plane" game.

Good job!
