I love sixguns for ... other people! I prefer a 1911 (even though it's been almost 50 years since I've fired one), but for others a simple sixgun might be the best choise. Since I bought my first gun this year, I've taken everyone with me to shoot who will go. After seeing how confused a smart, but inexperienced at shooting, person can be with a semi-auto, I've given-up. A revolver is great. Put the bullets in the cylinder, pull the trigger. I can understand the appeal of simplier is better.z

Keep your eyes open, you might just find a deal on a Colt. Just before I moved, I found a deal on TWO Colt SAA's. One of them was a 1901 mfg. 38WCF and the other a 1910 mfg. 32WCF gun. They had both been refinished (the 38WCF was re-blued, and had been polished enough to remove some markings, the .32WCF gun was nickle plated). I got them for the princely sum of $750 for both. I sold one for $700 shortly after I moved and still have the 32WCF gun. I intend to (someday) get it restored. I had them checked out by a Colt expert, and they are all genuine Colt guns. I do like the wheel guns, but still prefer the auto's (single stacks, mostly). |

I think some of you are missing the point here. I'm not trying to say the sixgun is better than the semi-auto. For protection from 2 legged preditors I will always go for my Beretta 92, but the sixgun is just fun to shoot. Not every gun in my collection has a definite purpose. Some are just there to move the mercury up on my "fun meter".
Hey Shooter65, 2nd centerfire handgun I shot was a S&W Mod 29 8 3/8s .44magnum. 1st was a S&W .22jet. My Dad is a big S&W fan, although his ccw gun is a Glock. AFARR- I....... you suck. That's the kinda deal I need. |

I only have one. It is the ruger Vaquaro in 45 lc. I always loved trying to out draw someone, and got it because I found out there were western quick draw contests. So I had it worked on a bit, and got a western rig so I could compete. Found out I was horribly out gunned, and out classed in skill and equipment.
I guess it like any other sport, and everyone gets race equipment to get the edge. I stopped doing it after my wife decided I was just wasting my money every year, so I decided I might try the cowboy action shooting. |

Ruger GP-100 in .357---model designation: GKGP-161.
It's a polished stainless 6" full-underlug 6-shot .357 Double Action revolver. A Hogue rubber monogrip is the handle. Really nice gun. On my wish list is a S&W Bodyguard model 649 in .357 with the Hogue Bantam grip. I would like to get this one finished in matte black by Checkmate. |

My first 15 years of shooting were semi-autos, I have 2 .357, A 38, 2 .22S I love them and no longer have to chase as much brass

Revolvers are for old timers.....and I reckon I'm an old timer. My first gun(s) was a matched pair of 1851 Colt Navies followed shortly there after by a first generation SAA manufactured in 1884 chambered in .45LC.
I spent so many hours practicing my fast draw the I had calluses on both thumbs (I'm amdidetruos) for years. A person can be amazingly fast and accurate with the first shot using a single action. Currently I have only half a dozen semi's in my collection. But I have 51 Smith wheelguns probably close to that in single actions. I carried a revolver my entire career as a duty weapon (even after we were given the option of going to an auto) and still carry a model 29 Smith as a CCW gun. For serious work I turn to a double action. But for pure beauty and the all important fun factor there is nothing that can beat a single action revolver. Out of all the single actions I own only two are genuine Colts. A pair of second generation. I wish I could afford more but the clones are just as fun and the Vaqueros, which I've got a shit load of, are the best for abuse and customizing. (I built custom Vaqueros for five years for CAS and barbeque guns.) If I get the time later I'll do a mental inventory and list the single actions sitting around here. I've been needing to get a semi-accurate count any way. Yes, you could say I love wheelguns and especially single actions. |

My HD handgun is a S&W Model 19 .357Mag. The best combination of firepower, reliability and handiness that I feel comfortable leaving stored longterm without worrying about mag springs. Just an all around classic handgun.

My Model 19 is my baby. All the other hanguns I have are SA's, but in a SHTF, a .357 Revolver is the perfect sidearm for a good rifle.

If I were having to shoot to save my life, I would take a Colt SAA in .45 Long Colt, .45 ACP, .44 Mag, or .357 Mag over a Beretta 9mm any day. I love my Beretta dearly, but 9mm is quite lacking in stopping power. Of course, shot placement is key...so you can down a Giant with a .22. But if I were to slightly miss my intended point of impact, I would rather do so with a larger caliber. A six gun single action isn't that bad a pistol for defensive situations. Why do you think so many hunters and backpackers take them on their hip in the woods! Just pointing out one man's opinion. I do love my Beretta 92, but it would not be my first choice for self defense. |

My current wheelguns include S&W625, S&W442, and a Ruger Super Single Six. With the 625 I've used 255gr cast bullets, 2400, auto rim cases, and resuled in 1150fps. It's a white tail slayer! With the 625 I don't need a magnum anymore. I believe the load came from an old Lyman book.

All I have right now for a whell gun is a S&W 686 with a four inch barrel and Hogue grips, the hard wood got to be obnoxious after about 50+ rounds. I definately a see a S&W 629, 617 (10 shot), and a 610 in my near future.

My favorite Six Gun is a Ruger Bisley Vacquero in 45 Colt, that I had a trigger job performed on. I also refinished the Rosewood Grips.. She not only looks great she shoots great too. |

The first gun i ever shot was a 66 when i was 6 or 7. My first handgun was a 586 4 inch. For hunting, I have a superblackhawk 7 1/2 inch. I love all sorts or guns, but there is just something awesome about a smooth 586 firing full house magnums. Who here had a giant smile when you saw Jerry Micklic (Spelling?) make and break records with a revolver?

I love all my guns equally well, but i do have a sigle action european arms .22 six shoooter which is tons of fun to blast shells thru. I also have a ruger super redhawk .44 mag. As what tailgate was sayin earlier I pity the poor bastard that breaks into my house or threatens my family when that gun is at hand, I'd really hate to get hit with one of them 300 gr. hornady XTP's.....waahooooooo
