It is very difficult to "prove" treason - the bar is set very high. You either have to openly confess (unlikely, given the death penalty), or have unimpeacable witnesses that can attest to treasonous acts. Thus, you are not going to get a lot of convictions, and plea bargains are not going to include the death penalty, obviously.

Does the standard for treason change over time? Seems like the rosenbergs were executed for giving nuclear secrets to the enemy.Seems like plenty of this going around these days.would they have been given a different sentence in todays world?

No one gets executed for treason anymore because it's part of the official platform of the Democratic Party. To a smaller extent the Republican Party as well. ZM |
