Hezbollah slams UN over report of arms smuggling from Syria

By DPA

Beirut - Hezbollah lashed out at the United Nations Security Council on Friday, saying reports of illegal arms smuggling from Syria to Lebanon were "inaccurate."

Hezbollah MP Hussein Hajj Hassan stressed that the UN report was "definitely inaccurate and unrealistic for merely political desires to distort the truth in favour of some states."

"The resistance does not need to smuggle arms, it has supplies to carry out required missions," Hajj Hassan said.

He said Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah had declared that "we have more than 12,000 rockets or maybe 20,000 or even a million, no one knows."

The UN Security Council on Tuesday asked UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to send an independent mission to investigate reports of illegal arms transfers from Syria to Lebanon.

It expressed its "serious concern at mounting information by Israel and another state" of arms smuggling across the border in violation of UN Resolution 1701 aimed at ending the conflict involving Hezbollah.

Nasrallah's political adviser, Hussein Khalil, had earlier said that Hezbollah "strongly objects to the supervision of the Syrian-Lebanese border."

Syria has denied that weapons are making their way over the border into Lebanon and warned against any moves to station international troops along the frontier.

UN Resolution 1701, that ended the Second Lebanon War last August, also called for the prevention of illegal arms sales and smuggling operations in Lebanon.

It also called for the disarming of all militias, in a reference to Hezbollah as well as Palestinian militant groups.

Hmm, if the mission is to kill teh j00z, what kind of "supplies" would you need?
