I see on the news he called himself Ishmael Ax, what does that mean? Rumors are circulating that this guy bent muslim? These college kids have no life, shit I could not wipe my ass from lack of time in high school, this Cho had too much time on his hands.

The narrator in Moby Dick says "Call me Ishmael." He's basically an outsider observing the events. It has been theorized that the shooter thought of himself as an outsider observing events, thus the connection.
