The cartridges they are chambered for.
The short action takes the short cartridges. i.e., .223, .243, 6mm, 7mm-08, .308. The long action is chambered for .270, .280, 30-06, 7mm Rem. Mag, .300 Win Mag. |

The VS is the varmit model and the Sendero is the PSS Tactical model. The barrel on the VS and the Tactical are the same, the stock is different. The VS is better for the money.
