12:00 GMT: The biological research laboratory building at British Antarctic Survey’s (BAS) Rothera Research Station is on fire. At 1 am local time (5 am UK) a fire alarm sounded, alerting staff to smoke and flames in the loft of the Bonner Laboratory. The building has been evacuated and no-one is hurt or at risk.

Darkness, snowdrifts and 50-knot winds mean that the fire cannot be brought under control and it is necessary to let it die out naturally. It is likely to be a day or so before a full damage assessment can be made. The cause of the fire is unknown at present but an investigation is underway.

I heard that was a main production facility for 2,4,5 Trioxin! That stuff isn't destroyed by burning and will be carried in the air currents!
Woo hoo!!!!

And for those of use without the knowledge - Trioxin is what?  Some type of chemical - but is it toxic?

Just curious...
