I have a Wby MKV in .378 Wby Mag. Well made, accurate rifle. Bought it used, 3 previous owners, [b]1[/b] box of ammo shot thru it. What can I say, I wanted 300 grains at 3000+fps.[:D]

Judging by the position of the knobs and lens cover button, I'd say it's a left hander. |

Is it a "real" Weatherby or is it a Howa with a Weatherby name on it?

Weatherby may be expensive but they are not junk. I have one of their light weights in 270 and it is an excellent piece of work. Synthetic stock with stainless fluted barrel. Fit and finish is spot on. Less than 6 lbs. without scope. Shoots Hornady 130 gr. SST bullets pushed with H4831SC into the nicest little groups. Now, have I ever killed a deer with this rifle that I would not have killed if I was using another brand rifle? Definately not. You buy what you like, unless there is something wrong with the rifle one brand name will kill as fine as the other.

I have a Ultramark V in .300 Weatherby made in Japan. Beautiful fit and finish and very accurate even with handloads.

Definitely pricey - probably worth it though -my uncle has a couple of 'em he got through The Bank of Boulder Colorado through some deal where you give 'em a grand they send you a gun and 15 years later they send you your grand back(don't quote me exactly on the details of this deal) - they are nice looking-excellent fit & finish and very accurate. Ammo is real pricey-$25-$50/box of 20 rounds-you probably want to buy a set of dies and SAVE all your brass to reload.

My brother just bought an SVS last month in .22-250. My first thought was OPPOS, but after seeing it and shooting it I must say I was impressed. His is made in the USA and our first attempts to sight in the rifle at 50yrds it made a very small three shot cloverleaf. My brother is now in love with the darn thing. If it is the rifle you want, go for it.

From what I have seen, they are good rifles. But, except for the adjustable trigger, I do not think they really are really superior to Sakos, Remingtons, Winchesters, etc.

Overpriced? Yes. But that Super VArmint master has some serious features like a Kreiger Barrel.
However, for what they want youd be better off with a Rem 700 varmint at half the cost. |
