Hey guys,
One of my Dad's friend has got a Mini-14, through a death in his family. He is looking to mount a scope, and ordered a mount through Cabelas. Its pictured on page 484, Item B, QD scope mount, It fits in the sideplate part of the gun. How do you get the sideplate off the gun itself, to get the scope mount in there? I don't have the gun here, but would like some general instruction. Thanks in advance!

You have to take the rifle apart to get the sideplate off.  Call Ruger at 603-865-2442 and they will send you an owner's manual free of charge.  When you get the gun apart, you take a small punch, put it on the flat side of the raisded dimple (for lack of a better word) on the sideplate and tap gently and it will slide out.  Be careful not to let the spring pop out.  The mount comes with a plate that replaces the original plate and this replacement plate has a screw hole for the mount to screw into.

There is a screw on top  to tighten the scope  to the top  of the  rifle
