As the title says, what do I want?

I'm thinking at least a 19".

It would help if it's something carried by Best Buy. I know, I know, they are da debil, but I have $50 worth of BB gift cards to use.

Update 04/18/07:

I just bought an LG L196WTQ today.

19" widescreen, 3000:1, 2ms, 1440 X 900 at BB taday. I had $50 in gift cards to use so I paid $239 - $50 = $189 plus tax.

Nice monitor, takes up a LOT less space than the Sony 19"crt I had on the desk.

Newegg has some sweet deals on Acer widescreens right now. They are very nice. $150 for a 19" widescreen Acer IIRC.  Hell, get a 21" they are so cheap.

I bought this one at Costco.  They may have something similar in BB.

and, for sure, it won't cost 33k

Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP, 20" widescreen, easily the nicest display i have ever used, much more cost effective than my last 19" samsung lcd. comes with DVI, VGA, s-video, and component inputs.

I have a 19" Dell that's outstanding.
Unfortunately, it doesn't match the 16x10 aspect ration of my D620 laptop.

Samsung and Viewsonic (not Optiquest) are the ones we've had the best luck with here at work failure-wise.

I gave my dad my old 17" Viewsonic and it is still going strong.
I got a free 19" from Dell.  :D

Another honorable mention is NEC.  They're more into the business end of monitors but still good to go.  I have a 15" LCD on my wife's system.

Check for quick refresh rate.  ~4ms
What resolution do you want?  I'm running 1400x1050 and 1280x1024(limited by monitor) on my dual monitor setup at work...  1280x1024 at home (limited by my monitor).

I just got a D620 also.  When i'm docked, i'm on a 19" Samsung SyncMaster 940n however.

The 1.83 dual core w/ 2gigs ram is a nice step up from my C610 w/ 1ghz and 512 ram.

2.0 dual core, but with only 1gb ram.
DVD burner, bluetooth, optional hires+ screen.

Two years ago, I bought 2 Dell laptops, I still get their sales mags. They seem to have some real good deals on flat monitors, and if I'm not mistaken, they can be used as a TV also.

I've thought of getting one, but I wasn't sure of the quality, you took care of that.
The AC adapter went out on both of them(laptops) in about 1.5yrs. I've read this is a common problem with their laptops.

GO FOR SAMSUNG for almost any case. If you have to have one of 30" or so, then go for Dell, but otherwise Samsung.

Thanks for the info and opinions, guys. It looks like I'm going to have to delay the purchase until next month. I like the Samsung, maybe they will go on sale.

If you can find any of the 931 BW's at your best buy they have better specs than the 941s. (2ms delay and 700:1 contrast)

I would really like to upgrade to a flatscreen monitor, but I can't see dropping more than $200 on one when a new Dell system for under $1000 will come with one.  I guess I'll just save a little more money up.

mwave.com has some terrific deals on monitors.
The best I have found, and I did a lot of looking around the net.

acer 1400 x 900 with DVI input for $178 from mwave.com

In fact, I built my entire new system using this website with great results.

I bought a 20.25" Viewsonic Widescreen when I had the old 1.8 Ghz Compaq. It didn't have settings to take advantage of the WS so I bought a new computer.

I have it on a Gateway Athlon 64x2 2.2Ghz with 2 GB's of RAM and now I can take advantage of the screen!

I left the Gateway 19" WS in the box when I brought it home.

My brother just bought a 24" WS Dell and it is a nice one also.

SAMSUNG 22 INCH WIDESCREEN

www.hardforum.com

^
check the deals there on the [H]ot Deals section every day!!!

22 inch widescreens of good quality (Samsung, Acer, BenQ) are flooding the market. It's the current "sweet spot" with prices hovering at $250 or slightly above. Unless you are on a REALLY tight budget, you'd be a fool to not get a 22" widescreen monitor with 5 ms response time and 1680*1050 resolution...

It's truly the best for

-price
-size
-performance

I got my Samsung 225BW on black friday for $250... the next gen version of monitor (226bw) is found online regularly for $299.
