the other day at the chat forum, someone, i can recall who, was wondering "what the hell what that stupid little metalic circle" in the stocks of the mausers, i didn't know what the heck was it for either......i got sick, couldn't sleep at night.
haha
anyways, the STUPID LITTLE CIRCLE works to arm and dissarm the firing ping of the mauser, that takes really strengh to be put back together......get it?(is it there so you can push the firing pin back inside of the bolt).
that's why it has those little holes all over.

Which metal circle? Where are they on the stock. The only ones I know of are on Swedes and are quality ratings.

Metal disk with central hole, located on side of buttstock on German (usually) Mausers.

The same sort of thing is built into the left side of the receiver of an SMLE: a hole big enough to insert the uncovered firing pin, in order to snap it off and render the gun immediately unusable.

I believe that they are used to take the striker assembly apart for cleaning.

Few armies would EXPECT to have to scuttle their own equipment and built them likewise.

Perhaps the French, but surely not the Germans.

I thought that the holes were there to store the rifles during transporting them, via troops in the back of the truck on racks of some kind.

You are correct with respect to rifles, but not the German Navy. If you recall, most of the Imperial German fleet lies, scuttled by its crews, at the bottom of Scapa Flow. Not to mention the Graf Spee of WWII.
