"You, who have always caused blows to Iran's interests, how dare you request help (from us) in order to attack the innocent Muslim nation of Afghanistan which has suffered and which is our neighbour," Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said.

The more I read and think about this, the more I come to believe that our policy of appeasement towards the Arab world has been misguided.  We pushed the UK and France to free their colonies.  We restrain the Israelis after they whip Arab ass in every war.  We force the Israelis to give up land.  We back Egypt in its war with the UK, France and Israel, our three best allies.  We give Egypt as much as we give Israel in aid.  We sell the Arabs advanced weapons.  We pay them billions for their oil.

And what do they do for us?  Hijack and bomb our airplanes, blow up our embassies and barracks, hold our people hostage, and embargo our oil supplies.  And what have we done about it?  Nothing, except a few ineffective air and missile strikes.

They might hate us because we are winners and they are the second biggest bunch of losers on earth, but I think the real reason is that they do not respect us.  Why should they?  The Muslims have pushed us time and time again, and we have never pushed back.

Just another "minority" group expecting minority status.  We just smile while they burn the house down.

A policy of appeasement is ALWAYS a disaster in practice because it's immoral in principle.

You must REWARD the GOOD.
  and
PUNISH the BAD.

Appeasement fails to punish the bad so on net it hurts the good.
