I looked in the window of the state (campus)police at my university and they had 2 pump shotguns in the vertical rack.  They both looked like 18" barrels.  Both of the round, ribbed plastic forends had identical molding ribs.  One of the shotguns was stainless (chromed?) with a hideous hunter-orange forend.

Shotguns appeared very new.  Sorry, that's the best description I can give. whadayathink?

This is at Cal Poly Pomona.

It's impossible to say for sure what they are with so little info, but when you say one was stainless or "chromed", I lean towards the Mossberg 500/590 or Winchester 1300. Mossberg and Winchester both offer "marine" finish guns that are nickel plated for salt water corrosion resistance, I don't think Remington or Ithaca does a factory nickel finish.

I'd bet the nickel gun with the orange forend was loaded with less than lethal ammo of some sort.

Yeah, thanks 700PSS.  I only had 1 1/2 seconds to glance at them as the cop directing traffic waved us through the stopsign.

I kind of theorized that it was one of those orange plastic toy guns for kids [smoke]
