DEMANDS for a ban on “un-Islamic” activities in schools will be set out by the Muslim Council of Britain today.

Targets include playground games, swimming lessons, school plays, parents’ evenings and even vaccinations.

And the calls for all children to be taught in Taliban-style conditions will be launched with the help of a senior Government education adviser.

Professor Tim Brighouse, chief adviser to London schools, was due to attend the event at the capital’s biggest mosque.

His presence there was seen as “deeply worrying”, and a sign that the report was backed by the Government.

Tory MP Greg Hands said: “The MCB needs to realise it has to move closer to the rest of the community, not away from it.

“The presence of Tim Brighouse implies Government backImadummying of this report. This is very worrying.”

Terry Sanderson of the National Secular Society said the report was a “recipe for disaster”.

He added: “Schools with even just a handful of Muslim kids will find they have to follow these guidelines because there aren’t the staff to have one set of classes for Muslims and another for the rest.

“The MCB shouldn’t try to force its religious agenda on children who may not want it. The Government needs to send the MCB packing. Schools should be about teaching, not preaching.”

The report, Towards Greater Understanding – Meeting The Needs of Muslim Pupils In State Schools, says all schools should bring in effective bans for all pupils on “un-Islamic activities” like dance classes.

It also wants to limit certain activities during Ramadan. They include science lessons dealing with sex, parents’ evenings, exams and immunisation programmes.

The holy month – when eating and drinking is not allowed in daylight hours – should also see a ban on swimming lessons in case pupils swallow water in
the pool.

When swimming is allowed, boys should wear clothing covering their bodies “from the navel to the neck”, even during single-sex pool sessions, while girls must be covered up completely at all times, apart from the face and hands.

The MCB adds that schools should ensure contact sports, including football and basketball, “are always in single-gender groups”.

Even school trips are targeted in the report, which wants them all to be made single-sex “to encourage greater participation from Muslim pupils”.

It wants Arabic language classes for Muslim pupils, and says the Koran should be recited in music classes. And all schools should ensure they have prayer rooms with washing facilities attached, it says.

In art classes, Muslim children should not be allowed to draw people, as this is forbidden under some interpretations of Islamic law.

And while the MCB insists that all British children should learn about Islam, it wants Muslims to have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons dealing with Christianity and other faiths.

The MCB says special treatment and opt-outs are necessary because otherwise Muslim pupils will feel excluded from school activities and lessons.

The MCB claims to be the voice of Britain’s 1.5million Muslims and was heavily courted by politicians including Tony Blair following the September 11 attacks. Its former secretary-general Iqbal Sacranie was awarded a knighthood in 2005.

But other Muslim groups criticised the report. Dr Ghayasuddin Siddiqui of the Muslim Parliament of Great Britain said: “There has been no discussion on these issues in the Muslim community.”

And the Sufi Muslim Council – which claims to represent far more British Muslims than the MCB – said the report misunderstood Ramadan.

It added: “This is not what Islam or Ramadan is about. Ramadan is about training yourself while carrying on with everyday life.”

The Department for EduImadummycation tried to distance itself from the report last night, and insisted Professor Brighouse was attending the launch only in a “personal capacity”.

A spokesman said it would read the report “with interest”.

The MCB did not comment.

It came as Britain's first Muslim peer called for women to stop wearing veils, claiming that they represent “a barrier to integration”.

Reigniting the debate over the face veil, or niqab, Lord Ahmed of Rotherham said there was no religious reason why Muslim women should wear them – and claimed that veils now cause society more harm than good.

The peer, who has urged the authorities to clamp down on preachers of hate, spoke during a debate held in the heart of the Arab world.

He told a mainly Muslim audience in Doha, Qatar, that he does not want a legal ban on the veil being worn in public – as many other nations are introducing, including Muslim Turkey and Egypt.

But he said: “The face veil is a barrier to integration in the West. The veil is now a mark of separation, segregation and defiance against mainstream British culture.

“There’s nothing in the Koran to say that wearing a niqab is desirable, let alone compulsory. It’s purely cultural. It’s an identity thing which has been misinterpreted.

“They were supposed to be worn so that women wouldn’t be harassed. But women, and communities as a whole, are now being harassed because they are wearing them."

The Muslim Council of Britain’s assistant secretary
general, Inayat Bunglawala, said yesterday: “Peoples’ attitudes are responsible for harming integration, not veils.

“And wearing them is very much a matter for individual Muslim women.”

Who's apologizing? I am more against this than you seem to realize.  When they want to teach about Allah in science class, it will be because the "intelligent design" folks set a precedent for it.  When they want Islamic decorations in the courtroom of a Muslim judge, it will be because Christians set a precedent for it.  You can't say you want religion in school and government and then decide it only includes one religion.

It will only happen if we let them. Someone has to have the balls and put their foot down.

Wonder how that would work if the roles were reversed and an American Christian who lived in Saudi Arabia and wanted a ban on Ramadan activities like fasting and going to Mecca.

Granted, I don't pay much attention to our congresscritters or reps unless they do something to directly piss me off, but I haven't met a Christian yet who wanted a state religion. I HAVE met plenty of Christians who think (correctly, since it's the intent of the Constitution) that seperation of church and states means that the state can't regulate or forbid religion, and no state religion will be established. That's it. Nothing else. No banning religion in public places or on government property. No banning symbols of Christian/Jewish law, which our own are based on.

Tell me, why are YOU so set on Christians in particular being muzzled?

I used to think that too! After going to college being indocrinated by socialists and then taking a lot of anthropology classes. I'd came out of college a thoughly morally relativistic, Multiculturalist asshole. Even more so becuase my father is from a minority group. But since all this crap has surfaced, Not so much here but in Europe, which is even MORE socialist and Mulitculturalist than we are, it has got me wondering and basically throwing out all the "multiculti" Claptrap i was taught.
      Its one thing to be NON RACIST! A race or "skin color" is what you are born with and to hate people for that is evil. They cannot change nor assimilate that color. However, we are not talking about Kinky hair, or red hair or eating "spicy" food. Were talking about BEHAVIOR, the so -called "creed of the Mulitculturalist", which is also the entire basis for all our laws.
     SO you have to ask yourself, can people of opposite Beliefs and behaviors live side by side? What if one side cannot tolerate the behavior of the other sides and it is part of their "culture" to do so? So then you have one culture at odds with another? How do you resolve that bullshit?
       So you can say, well just be tolerant, and leave the "others" alone. Right? sounds fare does'nt it? How about something that if it gets popular enough can basically effect the whole of society? Suppose for example that one Culture practices  POLYGAMY OR POLYANDRY, That means one Husband many wives, or one wife many husbands. How can a society like the US "accomodate" that when Monogamy is the rule? Should we just say "do whatever feels good?" Anyone who has studied such societies knows that it causes great problems. In most it leads to a "female shortage" and a lot of unmarried men. So how can we be expected to abide such non-sense?? What about a society such as in China where "male birth" is MUCH better than female birth?? In todays society of Abortion and Sonograms it could lead to the abortion of females and again we have an imbalance of males to females.  Should we allow such a thing becuase of "cultural sensitivity"??? What a crock! Same thing with animal scrafices (some still practice that), Honor killings (some Practice that), Hindu SATI (wife commits suicide after husband dies), Arranged forced marriages, Child brides etc. etc. etc. These are not some "way out" practices of some homegrown CULT, they are perfectly normal in some parts of the world and practiced by billions of people. So should we allow all that here in the name of diversity?? I read not only this article but a few others from Belgium and Holland and France, and it really looks like they might actually allow such things a Polygamy in order to keep the "family structure" together!! Its that kinda thing that could lead to civil war in the streets.

Based on many years of experience working with Muslims from many nations - I'm surprised the radical ones didn't demand a ban on bathing and the use of deodorant too.

There should be no special religious treatment of any kind in public schools.  If the parents don't like it, find a private school or home-school.

The terms racist, bigot, hate speech, extremist, gun nut, hate monger, homophobe, religious fanatic and others are used on a daily basis to describe anyone who disagrees with what the left wants to accomplish.  Day after day, people are told they are mean spirited, stupid or non caring for their thoughts on topics ranging from homosexuality, illegal immigration, education, taxes, gun control, etc.  Over time people stop thinking for themselves and start to believe all they are told by the media and the government as any other thoughts are wrong and bad.

When politicians start using word and phrases like "it is for the common good" or "it is for the children"  or my favorite "it takes a village to raise children" a mental red flag should start flying.  These are the terms used by socialists who believe that the needs of the state outweigh the needs, wants or desires of the people.  Personal freedom is not a concept that socialist adhere to or believe in.  If personal freedom takes away or limits the governmental control in any way, that freedom will be crushed and taken away.

It is time for all of use to do our own "re-educating" of America.  We need to start with our families and friends.  Start talking to them about Freedom and all that it entails.  Work with your children to reverse the damage being done by the public schools.  Get into discussions with your friends about such things as taxes, governmental intrusions in their personal lives, education, gun control and last but not least religious freedom.  

This country has certain personal guarantees that need to be upheld by all of us.  We have the right to free speech, free choice on what religion we practice and how we practice it, the right to self preservation, the right to privacy in our homes and lives.  The Founding Fathers set each of us up for success, happiness and freedom.  We are free men and women and we need to fight to keep it that way.

England is lost for now.  Only 1 thing can save that country.  A revolution, armed or peaceful, whatever they choose, by the populace that still cares for their country.  There is another possibility that may happen before the necessary revolution takes place, a civil war between the hard line Muslims and the mainstream Muslims.  Maybe then the English citizenry will wake up and do what needs to be done.

Obviously this wasn't directed toward me, as I have yet to comment upon this topic, until now. BUT.... I'd like to reply to this statement. anyway.

I think "we" HAVE in SOME cases, "gone too far" in "prohibiting" religious practice in schools/gov't. However I believe better "too far" than not far enough.... white Christians are being RAPIDLY out numbered..... what it it, by like 2020 whites PERIOD (NM religious affiliation) will be in the minority in the U.S.?

Granted legal president CAN be overturned... but it's not EASILLY done.... I tend to think FAR ahead, not tomorrow, but in 20 years....what might the ramifications be? If NOW Christian doctrine is allowed to hace carte blamche, then in 30 years it may be Vatholic or Muslim doctrine.... in 100... who knows?
