The sermon Sunday was about giving up things for lent for personal reasons(like weight loss), rather than giving something up for the purpose of growing closer to God.

Kinda made me look back at somethings I was giving up for lent and go, oh.

I'm giving up on not saying my morning prayers sometimes.

Meaning I am going to try and not hit the snooze and use that 10 minutes for prayer/devotional.

I'm giving up sex with numerous young hotties.........It'll be rough but rewarding.(/sarcasm)

On a serious note I'd like to limit my swearing to really appropriate times, like when I crush an apendage or something...

Usually it is caffine. I took a pass this year.

I'm not of a denomination that practices Lent, I just think the spirit of Lent is a good idea.

The dishwasher

We are all hand washing all dishes, everyone helps out.  Since we cook eveything at home, including bread, it is quite a task.

We are also going to do three pilgrmages to holy sites in the next few weeks.  We are going to Conawego (SP?) chapel, the Cathedral in Baltimore and the Cathedral in DC and the John Paul II center.  We will also volunteer as a family to do a soup dinner at church this Friday to support a youth group missions trip.

Beleive it or not, my kids prefer Lent to Christmas.. no joke, it is the best time for us as a family.

When exactly IS Lent, and how long does it last?

Purgatory is the church's idea of how to  get money off the dead. If you don't have anyone paying for a mass for your dead ass you'll float around like the Hindenberg forever.

Last wed til Easter.

Glad I am Methodist.

Catholics are not the only one to observe Lent with giving up something.
