LINK AT BOTTOM OF THIS POST. PLEASE READ FIRST. PLEASE!

ETA: Please Please Please DO NOT reference AR15.com..... that will only bring the DU Trolls here!!!!

Guys.... the Washington Post article has a blog just like Zumbos had.

I can't post the link as you have to register on their site in order to post and my link would log you in as me...

I would encourage all members to leave remarks on the blog as it is over run by the Lefties.

The link to the Washington post will be below, simply type "Zumbo" in the search box on their page.

It will ask you to register even to view the article.

REGISTER.

Then leave remarks on the Blog of the article.

This is an opportunity to have our collective Voice heard.

This is also a mainstream publication with NATIONAL readers, not just hunters and gun owners like Zumbos Blog.

I would also encourage strongly, that all of us use intelligence and logic in our remarks.

This is a chance for us to frame and present our arguments on the lefties own ground.

Bear in mind the Washington Post is read by ALL politicians.

The lefties are making us look like "Radicals" or attempting to portray us in this manner.

This is and EXCELLENT chance for us to PROVE THEM WRONG.

Instead of remarks like "Fudd" (which lefties won't get), and personal attacks, PLEASE let's do a "Fire Mission" of sorts and let OUR VOICE BE HEARD.

I am asking as a favor, take it as you will, but I am asking that you take the time to register and post on this blog, again ALL THE POLITICIANS READ THE WASHINGTON POST.

LET'S LET THEM KNOW WE ARE NOT NUTS.

Here is the link to the Washington Post. Please follow the guide I made above to post.

Thank you,

I have many posts over there on the first couple pages. In fact, I have *the* first post therefore all your WaPo comment blog are belong to me

One thing, the comments won't post any quotation marks, parantheses or many other punctuations. I have learned this at my own expense. If you are going to quote something, you will need to break it out seperate from the rest of the body of your message if you want to make sure it is understood as a quote.

Hit!

Heres my response:

The NRA had nothing to do with what happened to Zumbo. It was purely the instant reaction of tens of thousands of gun owners accross the country. Infact the NRA was one of the last people to officially drop Zumbo. Furthermore I am an NRA member and the NRA does not train me on anything. I support them because they are a voice that protects a very important peice of our country and Constitution when all too many people these days are willing to sacrifice our rights. Gun owners response to what Zumbo said should let everyone know the gun owning people in this country can be very powerful when compelled to be so, and we will not stand for anyone, including a hunting writer, bash the use of our Constitution Rights no matter what form they come in. The constant attacks on our rifles is completely unfounded, and all one has to do is look at the recent DOJ study to comfirm that. You can also look at other countries who have recently enacted bans, and how their crime rates have fared, and its not for the better by any means. Ill close with one of my favorite quotes: Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Ben Franklin 1759

Sounds like a fire mission to me.

Perhaps you would want to include that in the title.

I know that seeing "Fire Mission" will often tempt me to open the thread when I might have otherwise passed it by.

This is indeed a worthy undertaking.

Holy fuck this is golden oppurtunity....

Look what these people are saying!

All proposed gun legislation should have a provision to punish anyone who speaks against it. The NRA should be banned from speaking in defense of gun ownership--until we shut them up, theyll just keep spreading their opinion. You dont NEED guns. You dont NEED freedom of speech. Honestly, you dont NEED any of the rights provided. Other countries get by just fine--look at Europe, Canada, and Australia. America needs to catch up with the times.

I was reading through the posts, there are a TON of misinformed people over there. They are all talking about "blasting away" animals, hunting with RPG's, tanks, AR-15 are too inaccurate to hunt with. What the hell is the matter with people? I really am starting to believe that we are outnumbered by the sheeple.

So many people think that guns are evil guns are dangerous. They forget that guns are an inanimate object that without a human behind them they are harmless. It takes a human to use a firearm in an illegal manner.

the 2nd amendment gives us as U.S. citizens the right to keep and bear arms...wait you say it meant militia...well militia in the context of when it was written meant any able bodied man that could pick up a rifle and defend this nation.

also remember that firearms only cause .7% of the deaths in the U.S., its not even close to what the media makes it out to be to sensationalize the gun culture of the U.S.
if you take the time to arm yourself with real knowledge not fear biased information and sit down and think about it really think about it maybe you'll understand.

And having a fear of a rifle just because of how it looks is like judging a book by its cover. It doesn't make it anymore dangerous.  it just shows how judgements are made out of ignorance like in so many other topics....

Number of deaths for leading causes of death(notice it not firearms, follow the link for more information)

Heart disease: 654,092

Cancer: 550,270

Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 150,147

Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 123,884

I took the time to register and posted, Although the format doesnt lend itself to an easy discourse. It was quick and off the cuff, dont be too critical.

"I cant help but feel bad for Zumbo, but the remarks he made will be used by the Anti 2nd amendment media to further erode our 2nd amendment rights. The reaction by the people to his remarks are necessary. We dont need apparent allies, like Zumbo, to give ammunition to those who wish to repeal our God given rights to protect ourselves our families and our constitutionally guaranteed rights.I hope elected officials pay close attention to Zumbos fate when they contemplate subversion of the constitution in order to pander to their camapign contributors. The left needs to realize the 2nd amendment is as sacred as the 1st and all the others. I have been a passive supporter of the NRA all my adult life, as I have always realized the value of the 2nd amendment. Now, however I will become a much more passionate supporter of NRA, as it is pretty obvious how critical their efforts are in light of recent changes that have taken place in Washington. I hope others do likewise, as the travesties that took place post-Katrina in NO could happen nationwide, if the 2A doesnt get the protection the founders meant for it to have."
Link Posted: 2/24/2007 9:15:59 AM EDT
[#20]
I know the 2A has nothing to do with hunting, but I had to reference it to get through to these people. Here's my response:

roewert says: "right of Americans to own or hunt with assault-style firearms.????? Where do these gun whackos get this crap?"

Assault weapons is a made-up defintion to categorize rifles based on what they look like, not how they funtion. All lever-action, bolt action, and pump hunting rifles are based on yesteryears military firearms. These rifles were designed for accuracy as well as being comfortable to shoot. Why would it be wrong to shoot with something that is designed to maintain total and safe control of the firearm?

A semi-automatic rifle in a .223 caliber is hardly a Sherman Tank. It is not the same thing. In fact, many states do not allow this caliber to hunt with because it is too small and not powerful enough for big game. A .30-06 has more power than a .223. For the states that do allow hunting with .223 caliber, the magazine capacity is limited to only 5 rounds, just like any other rifle. It is hardly the "spray and pray" method coined by the Brady Bunch.

"The NRA will surrender their assault rifles and machine guns when we pry them from their cold, dead hands. So what are we waiting for?"-thrh

I think he's forgotten the salient fact that WE'RE the ones with the guns...

Some more drivel:

The Ku Klux Klan was in the Twenties much more powerful than the NRA is today. Yet within a decade, due to juicy scandals and the revelations that the organization had all the intellectual sophistication of a kindergarden class in an inner city slum, it declined to become today a shadow of its former self. These macho, swaggering gun-toters will eventually go the same way, probably when some terrorist uses the same type of rifle that these heroes use on chipmunks to assassinate some prominent politician. Then the NRAs association with the assault rifle as a vicious and anti-social tool will indelibly tar the NRA in the same way as did the rape of a young girl by the Indiana dentist and Klan Grand Dragon head in the late Twenties. Mr. Zumbo is not a sympathetic figure. As a famous NRA type, I find his views as disgusting as those of his fellows. I hope he now will have some free time to reflect on the depth of the friendship and loyalty of his readers and advertisers. A pox on them all.

Lie down with dogs, rise up with fleas. So goes the fate of anyone who associates himself with mindless fanatics. Mr. Zumbo is probably wondering how he could have called these people friends all these years only to be abandoned and attacked for a simply opinion. Faith in each other, loyalty, and the willingess to forgive are the hall marks of honest, secure individuals. Obviously no one of that description owns an AR. And to think that these people possess guns?

Gun lobby idiots. Got to have my assault rifle to make sure I can hit something. Makes me a man to shoot my assault rifle!! You people deserve the Bush presdident you got, whose militarism has become an embarrassment in the world. The fourth amendment will be protected, even when your assault rifles are no longer legal. Sanity will prevail.

Using an assault rifle is just as cowardly and pathetic as any other gun. Man-up you NRA wimps and use your bare hands

I dont know how to quote a single sentence instead of the whole post, but it is kind of funny he references some klan leaders raping of a young girl as a catalyst for the fall of the KKK. Considering what some ACLU leader is charged with recently.

this is a good thing, guys. keep posting.  my contribution:

While it is unfortunate that this incident had to take place, Mr. Zumbos comments exemplify the misperception of many Americans concerning so-called assault rifles. Calling some kinds of guns terrorist rifles while considering others perfectly acceptable is to buy into the lie that guns, not people, have malicious intent and the will to murder. Guns are tools, able to be manipulated to the will of their user, just like a screwdriver, bat or a knife. An AR-15 or AK-47 can be used to terrorize or to commit crime, or the same gun can be used to defend honest citizens from that crime. In point of fact, the latter scenario is far more likely in America today. Educate yourself on gun crime before throwing the first stone.

Itd345.... one comment a little too strongly? I guess if it was the same comment being made that gays for example are terrorists because of what they say in a Gay Pride Parade you might feel differently. Our rights are not negotiable. My right to keep and bear arms is just as non negotiable as your right to express your opinion, however without my guns, a government can remove your right to say what you like. Unless you have a better plan to defend our rights? Perhaps a soccer ball to defend my home? Or to defend your right to free speech? Guess what happens when a countrys citizens have no means to resist. Guess what happens to crime rates when guns are removed...DC is a perfect example, highest murder rate in the country because law abiding people are denied the right to defend their homes and businesses. DC, with the most restrictive gun laws has the highest crime.... go figure. Perhaps defending our families with soccer balls is not such a good idea.

I found this one to be particularly articulate and clear:

What happened to Jim Zumbo is unfortunate but inevitable. Gun owners are sick and tired of being vilified and persecuted. To have been done this by one of our own is unforgiveable. American gun owners clearly understand the second amendment is NOT about hunting. Read it. It never mentions hunting anywhere. The second amendment is about the right to possess the best tools available to keep myself safe from criminals. England has proved that you CANNOT regulate criminal ownership of guns. Australia has proven you cannot keep guns out of criminals hands. Anyone who doesnt want me to have a gun to protect my family does NOT have my best interests in heart. I am a scout master, have a masters degree, I am active in church and volunteer work. I also own several semi-automatic rifles incorrectly labeled assault rifles. I own them for fun, collecting, self defense and for keeping my family safe in times of natural or national disaster. I vote, I am politically motivated and I will NEVER vote for a politician who wants to keep me from owning these tools. Politicians like this are violating their oath to the country, are putting my family in danger and cannot be trusted. And to the poster who claimed anyone who speaks out against gun control should go to jail, or that nobody needs a second amendment or first amendment right You can get the hell out of my country! This country was founded on the principle of freedom, personal responsibility and natural rights that all humans own. You need to spend a year in China where you have none of these rights and then report back how awesome it is. Matt M Utah

Comment posted. My response:

I never ceased to be amazed at the willingness of self styled intellectuals to spout opinions on subjects which they have no knowledge of. AR15s, are sporting rifles, not assault rifles. Assault rifle is a term coined by hoplophobic politicians to scapegoat a class of firearms for anti-social behavior by criminals and the mentally ill. Banning something is a lot easier than addressing the root cause of a problem. AR15s can be assembled in a number of configurations, including those that are suitable for match shooting, hunting, or simply resemble the M16 used by the military. They are not inherently more dangerous than Grandpas old 30-30 deer gun, which fires what Teddy Kennedy considers a cop killer round..

Here is my post.

I am an American gun owner, I own "Assault Weapons". I am an intelligent person and an upstanding citizen. I am a law abiding citizen, I will not be portrayed as a criminal or a terrorist. I will stand behind the right of all Americans to keep and bear arms of any type for any lawful purpose.

The reaction that you saw was not directed by the NRA. The reaction was driven by the American gun owners who are sick and tired of having the civil liberties trampled.

It was an average gun owner who spotted this attack on the 2nd amendment amongst our own. It was average gun owners who responded. This is driven by the people, the gun owners are the “gun” lobby.

We are fed up and tired of having our civil rights stripped from us and having the rights protected by the 2nd amendment danced around. We will not have the 2nd Amendment written off as archaic and something of the past, nor written off as the government’s right to have “militias”, nor written off as the right to hunt. The 2nd amendment protects the individual’s right to own weapons suitable for militia use (read military) for there own personal protection and the general protection of liberty.

We will vote politicians out of power who work stifle the 2nd Amendment rights of Americans, we will boycott anti gun businesses and celebrities, we will boycott anti gun publications.

If you are a politician and want to lose your office, push gun control. You want to know why the democrats lost power back in 1994; it was because of the Assault Weapons Ban. If you are a paper and want to lose readership, push an anti gun agenda.

Roo, this guy is trying to "own" you.

kangaroo12001, you are terrorists because you terrorise others in to believing your way is the right way - maybe not always with violence, but sometimes yes. you attack peoples lives but hitting their pocketbooks - these tactics are nothing but economic terror tactics and also cowardly. if you are brave, why dont you win on the merits of your arguments instead of economically ruining your *enemies*?

And we know what happens when they try...... heheheheh

My response to the assclown:

turnedrightgotlost.... so if I dont support a company that disagrees with the 2nd Amendment I am a terrorist? Do you purchase Wolf Ammo? If not, then by your definition, you are a terrorist. You need to learn what terrorism is... do you boycott any companies because you disagree with them? Terrorism is violence and killing, as of yet you have not specifically mentioned an act of terrorism committed by the NRA. I am still waiting for your specific example of where we blew up buildings, hijacked planes or drove car bombs into crowds, or beheaded people who disagreed with us. We are defending a right guaranteed by the Constitution, if you look you will see it is written in easy to understand English, in plain language. Agaion, I am waiting for your specific example of terrorism done by the NRA. I can name examples done by Greenpeace....
