Has anyone tried out the new semi-auto Tommy Guns offered by Kahr Arms? They look nice, and MSRP is about $800.

And don't bother recommending a full auto one. Illinois is not a Class 3 state, and I don't have the money. I just want a shooter, not a collectable.

These are BANNED in the PRK due to the pistol grip, go figure.  THEY become legal without a pistol grip, go figure.

The Thompsons I have handled all seemed to weigh about 75 lbs.

They are fricken HEAVY!!!!!!!!!

Put wheels on 'em, and use 'em as field artillery.

But are the new ones any good? Semi-auto only, come with a 30 round stick mag. Do they take US GI stick mags, or are they modified in some way?

Still, this NEW one is 13lbs. That's the weight of a match rifle.

I CAN tell you that its manufaturer (Kahr Arms) makes really good stuff. I've got their P9. Very nice.

Contact Kahr for any INDEPENDENT reviews of their Tommy. If any exist, they will let you know.

I beleive Kahr Arms purchased the rights to the Tommy from Auto Ordnance.  Nothing new, I believe they are using the same tooling to make these.

Basically the same old Tommy that's been for sale over the years, just a new name on it.

I have a 1927A1 Deluxe.  I have the foreward pistol grip, but I don't like it, so I installed the standard guard.  It is pre Kahr.  Some will tell you quality was better before the buyout, and some will tell you it is better after.  I don't know which it true, or if it is about the same.

The only real drawbacks are that it is very heavy (probably pushing 14 pounds unloaded), and the trigger is quite bad.  I have shot mine off a rest at 100 yards with UMC .45 and put a whole 30 round magazine into a 5-6 inch circle.

Since you asked for input, here is mine. Any (full auto or semi) ones manufactured by Kahr Arms suck. Is this from first hand experience? Sorta. Most of the experience is from reading other posts. Some experience has come from witnessing others attempting to use their full auto version with numerous problems.
Also if you check www.gunbroker.com you can always find a ton of these from Kahr Arms for sale. Why do you think?

If you really wanted one, at least pay the $200 to have the appropriate (shorter) barrel placed on.

That's a no-no in Illinois as far as I know.

I had a model 1927 Deluxe by Auto Ordnance. Beautiful gun. Worked flawlessly.  Gonna cost you upwards of $500 for a 50rnd drum. Auto Ord used to sell an adapter kit to take the removable 1928 stock which I put on mine. I doubt that Kahr has changed anything. Last I heard they were not making the full auto versions.  In case anyone cares Kahr is owned by a son of Rev. Sun Young Moon of Moonies fame.

I was told this when I was thinking of buying a tommy gun once. That you have to make an oval hole on some of the older WWII mags so that they will fit the newer gun's I don't know why but thats what I was told about the mags at a gun show one time.

If you want a .45 carbine, why not get a Mech Tech conversion upper for a 1911?  It would be shorter, lighter and cheaper.

Isn't Kahr owned by the Moonies or something?
