After trying countless times to get the wife to shoot the my Bushmaster, she refuses to shoot anything but my mini-14.  So Ive made it "her rifle" now.

Who makes the best mini-14 mags ?  I dont want to buy original ruger hi-cap mags.
Please rank the following:
-Thermold
-ramline
-PMI
-Federal Ordnance
-Bushmaster (or what ever brand they sell)

Bushmaster sells triple K. Everything besides ruger factory and PMI mags suck.

Williams make a decent sight for the Mini-14s.  And are not that expensive.  You can get them thru Natchez Shooting Supplies, and I think even Wideners.

Gotta go with WILSON on his choice of magazines.  PMI is definitely a good brand to have on hand.  Bought a bunch for my Mini-14 for Y2K, and have had no problems with them yet.

I consider Thermold the finest non-Ruger mag with PMI being second followed by Federal Ordnance (which someone once told me PMI actully produced F. Ord. mags).

I can't rank PMI first because I had a mag that had been loaded for 8-9 months and the spring set, when unloading it a few rds. came off normally and then the next couple were slid out w/out spring having any resistance so I then turned the mag up and just poured the others out!  If you get PMI just cycle them out every so often or replace the springs w/ Wolff springs if they make 'em.

Eastwood, Thermolds are scarce, if you find them - GRAB 'EM if they're not too expensive.  Prices are upwards of $30-45 for those who know what they have.  E-mail me when you get a chance.

I've had good luck with Federal Ordnance.  The steel is same gauge as original Ruger mags.  I haven't seen any for a long time however.  They weren't cheap then. (1987)  Never had a problem with them.
I would look into a new rear sight however as the one from Ruger is CACA.

PMI and Ruger are the only way to go.

Ditto.
It's kinda nice to see someone ask a "Mini-14 question" without getting attacked.

Eastwood,
FWIW, Natchez Shooters Supply http://www.natchezss.com has the RAM-LINE 30rnd "Combo" Mags that'll fit AR-15s or Mini-14s on sale for $14.95.
They're not the best mags around, but they're good enough for the range (& less than ½ the price of PMIs).

The best mags I ever found for a Mini were the Ramline mags that were supposed to work in an AR15, an AR180, and the Mini.  They didn't work worth a crap in the 15 or the 180 as they were way too tight in the mag well.  However, they worked perfectly in the Mini.  I don't believe that you can them new anymore, but keep your eyes open at gun shows.

Does anyone have any experience or information about the Mini-14 mags made by "John Mason Co."?

I've found that those Combo mags work VERY WELL in my mini-14. I've got at least 4 of them, and they always work. The last 2 I got for $8.00 each at a gunshow a couple weeks ago. Keep your eyes open for deals like that!!

Funny, My wife is the same way.  She wont touch my AR or FAL.  I have only used PMIs. Rugers Mags are just too expensive.

Why wont your wife shoot your AR?!?!?!

Make a deal with her, where you like cook dinner, and clean up the house for a week, if she shoots a 30 round mag through it....

bet she'll love it.....

With the wife using a Mini 14, at least you have a good chance of escaping unperforated, if you get on her bad side.        (kidding)

I used to own a mini 14 and the best mags to get for that rifle for the best price would have to be the PMI mags.

I have no direct knowledge but did read a couple of posts somewhere indicating some difficulties with them. Also saw a post indicating Mec-Gar was making 10s, but can't find a source and Mec-Gar did not respond to an email inquiry.
