My regards also...I know how you feel. Lord knows why things happen, they just do. Stay strong, pray if you are so inclined, and try to be there for your family. It is times like these that the family needs each other to lean on. You will get threw this and your nephfew will not be forgoten.

I know what you mean about the look. I taught my girlfriends nephew to tie his shoes. When he finally got it right on his own he just sat there and looked at it in disbelief for a few moments. He then looked up at me with that look and said, "I did it." He's a great little kid and if anything like that happened to him I would just want to die myself.
Hang in there. Be there for your sister-in-law. She'll need all the support you can give her for quite a while. |

I am truly very sorry to hear of your families suffering and the loss of a young mans life. Words will not help as much as time.
I also often wonder why our best and brightest are stolen from us. Always remember the good qualities/traits he exhibited as the are a testament to you and your family. |

Retrodog: that look is a wonderful thing. That is the image I keep seeing when I close my eyes, it is a good thing and a curse, I cant close my eyes to go to sleep. I just put my wife on an airplane with her brother and his wife. I am driving up later today. I gotta get some sleep first, hope I can sleep. I talked to my sister-in-law and her husband a few minutes ago, Anyone in the salt lake area will probably see this on the news. I got some more details. Micheal got home at 10:30 last night. he went downstairs to his room. 10:40 the rest of the family heard the gunshot while they were watching TV in the upstairs family room. They thought "thank god micheal is home" they went downstairs to find he had snuck out the window and had gone to his friends house cata corner from theirs. It was his FRIEND that shot him. Micheal was shot in the chest from a point blank range with a shotgun. no chance, death was instant. They have the shooter in jail. Still dont know why he did it, or anymore details. I dont care either, I want justice. to me at this point, a life for a life would be justice. Lock your kids up, nail the windows closed and tell them they cant have friends. it is a sad world when you have to be more affraid of your freinds then you enemies. (still venting some) |

I had a friend in middle school who blew away his best friend on accident. He was home alone, and kept hearing strange noises. So he got his Dad's gun out and called his friend over. Well, his friend decided it would be funny to scare him. Scare him he did, and got blown away immediately. It was a stupid tragedy, and my friend didn't deserve the guilt that I'm sure he still feels. He was meesed up for as long as I knew him.
So, until you know it was done on purpose, remember that his friend probably feels like shit, and will feel that way the rest of his life. My sympathies to you and yours... |

I am leaving shortly, I think I will be fine. I am not angry, Anger clouds ones judgement , I will not allow myself to be angry until the appropriate time. I talked to my wife, she made it up there, I got more details. This was not an accidental shooting, the reasons why I believe this:
1. He was shot dead center in the chest. 2. There where 2 other people besides micheal in the house. neither the shooter or his friend are claiming accidental shooting. 3. they ditched the shotgun, they got rid of the gun!!!! I think this says alot in itself. Thank ya'll for your prayers and thoughts at this time. |

M1A-A1, thank you.
They have the shooter in jail. He is nineteen and has been out of jail for a few months from a drug conviction of some sort. He has been charged with man slaughter of the second degree for the time being. I think this was more to keep him in jail for the time being while the investigation continues, I am still hoping the charge will be upgraded to murder. The witness said that there had been 4 shells on the table, but police found no shells or the weapon. so not only was the weapon handed off to someone else, they took enough time to pick up the extra shells from the table. They have a lead, about the location of the shotgun. It was not just tossed in a ditch or something. It was given to someone who then left the seen. They did a residue test and confirmed the shooter as the shooter. He has changed his story a couple of times, and it was not until late sat before he started with the accidental shooting story. I am sorry, If I accidentally shot someone I would be on hands and knees crying out, that I didnt mean to do it....and so on and so forth. There are to many things fishy with this for it to be an accident. We saw the body yesturday for a private family viewing. The wake is on Tuesday and funeral on Wed. I am most worried about his 5yrd old younger brother. I know at that his age he does not understand totally or understand his feelings. He did not want to say good bye to micheal. He has had an attitude and doesn't talk about it at all. His mom is sending him to school today, I am taking him and going to let his teacher know what happened and a counselor at the school. Micheal was real close to his 5yrd old brother, they did alot of things togethere. With friends like the one that did this, I would rather have just enemies. At least with an enemy you know were you stand, you know you should watch your back. |

I'm extremely sorry for your families loss. It appears that there are no safe places in this world.
I also had a friend who was killed by another so called friend. He went berserk one night (fueled by alcohol and drugs) and tried to threaten a little boy with a knife, when my friend (a neighbor to the boy) tried to intervene the guy stabbed him right in the heart. He was dead before the paramedics arrived. This is no comfort I know, but, God does work in ways we can't begain to explain. God Bless |
