I have a business trip to Berlin, Germany scheduled for next week.  Leave on a Tues. night, return Sunday afternoon.  Apparently there will be some free time to site see.  Any suggestions?

Also, areas to avoid? as well as if the SHTF, where to go...will a US Military base take you in or need to make it to the embassy?

The Checkpoint Charlie museum is definitely worth the trip.  Too bad the checkpoint, which used to be 100 yds down the road, is gone.

Last time I was there they had more construction cranes per square mile than any other city on the planet.  I'm not sure whether they're finished with their construction boom.

edit:  Well, it's actually a good thing the checkpoint is gone, but too bad the remnants of the cold war have vanished.  Those were a reminder of different times.

Just got back from Frankfurt this week, Most of the military bases are protected by Armed German Security SubContractors.  You won't get on base without the proper paperwork, you can't just drive in and look around.  As far as SHTF, stay out of any Turkish Bars.  If you feel uncomfortable with anyone, just tell them that you are Canadian!  Most of the Germans like or ignore Americans.  Should'nt worry about your saftey too much!  Take plenty of money as I'm sure you know that the Dollar is only worth .75 Euro, This does make the duty free at the airport a good deal on your return flight.  Have a good trip, TOOTELS!!
